Basically what the title says, my lovely still rather new HD from scan, 320GB samsung. I turned on my computer to see only 2 physical hds... then a couple of seconds later my third hd appears as 7.87Gb and removeable, it should be a 320Gb samsung. It was working before, but sometimes BIOS would no report it properly, Any ideas? I couldnt test anything as i had to come to work.
never seen that before..is it in a bog standard sata port or a raid port?
is the mobo sata 1 or 2 ...is the HD sata 1 or 2 lol.

try start>run>diskmgmt.msc and check what its like in the disk manager

I assigned the letter drive of F: to this sata device. Now windows automatically sets F: as the removeable disc drive (had this problem with a dell at work with a network drive and card reader). Now it reports as 7.87GB, which i could say is 8GB, now is the limit for the 2003 8 GB for a flash device? So thats why its says its only 7.87GB? If i change the drive letter in disk management, all should be fine?
The limit is only with FAT16, but I assume you used NTFS.
Could be a dodgy disk, or maybe a controller.

Easiest thing to do is run the samsung bootable hdd software and run a scan. That will tell you if its b*ggered or not & obv if that works fine then its something to do with windows
Yer... i know.. got 2hrs and 15 mins till im home...
o when its 7.87Gb it asks me to format *shrugs* maybe it thinks its FAT 16 by default...
yer im know im pissing in the wind with all these ideas but keeps me busy :D
Just got home and *waits to make tension*... Fixed and didnt loose single piece of bit torrent heaven :D. Although it did mess up my shares and utorrent destionation folders.
Got home, checked disk manager, went to f:, changed it to Z:, restarted server, back to disk manager, made partition active (it lost drive letter etc.. after restart), made it Z: and wooo all my files are still there.
morale of the story... dont make anything as the F: drive :P

Linux doesnt have drive letters and the file system is not b0rked
