4300 Vs 6300 c2d

Hi all what do you all think of the 4300 compared to the 6300 as they are the same price and I cant really see any significant difference. I wont be overclocking if that helps and my rig will be 2 gig of cheap ddr2 667 on a gigabyte s3.

if you're not overclocking they're much the same. I'd probably go with the E6300 as I have one in my work machine and its not bad..nothing special though..but I am used to my clocked e6600 now.

Just get the E4300 and overclock it......It should be against the forum rules to mention "Core2Duo"s in the same sentence as "no overclocking" =p

Agreed - you may as well give it at least a small overclock to get it running at E6600 speeds. It only requires a simple change of setting in the BIOS and you're done.

Cant overclock it - its for a friend and hes not going to be up for that until I can convince him.

both e6300 and e4300 will overclock to e6600 speeds and not even break a sweat..I'd consider it..change ur mobo to the DS3 rather than the s3 and give it a light overclock..

I've got a C2D 6300 on a Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 (rev 1). I tried OCing it once with the windows based OCing utility Gigabyte supply (got 2x512MB Corsair Value Select 667 in it) and it fell over so I didn't try it again.

I will probably try again at some point

If I was going to OC it I would go through the bios and not some flakey windows program.

Good call, I have the DS-S with a E4300 overclocked to 3.2GHz. Like Mike Fishcake I tried using the Gigabyte overclocking utility. I upped the FSB by 10MHz over stock and the system crapped it's pants and crashed.

Differences between the S-3 and DS-3 are DS-3 has solid caps, 2 extra 3Gb/s SATA ports and the voltage settings are availble in the BIOS without hitting shift F1 or some such similar combo.

Chiming in with everyone else that you should convince your buddy to overclock at least a little.
