I bought a £15 off-brand KVM switch from a local PC shop but when I plugged it in and fired it up the picture quality was awful. I returned it for a refund with no hassle, but I'm wary of buying another one from another shop in case I have similar issues and grief returning it.
Can anyone reccomend a cheap but decent one?

From the picture it looks like the switch itself has seperate ports for a USB mouse and keyboard but only 1 USB connector for both connecting to the PC - is that the case?
I'd be getting the ps/2 version to keep my old clicky keyboard anyway but I'm curious.
one for mouse, one for keyboard. Then 1 into the computer.
Ive not tried to play games with it though. So i cant say anything about that. But for general usage its fine, hell im using it at the mo :D
Should be OK I'm sure, it's the same data for the picture regardless and I can't believe I'd notice input lag from an extra metre of keyboard/mouse wire.
KVMs have a max resolution that they can handle, for instance

Only be at 1280*1024 for now at least.
I do have a big old CRT that can do 2048*1536 but that's for my TV box, the KVM is for 2 different machines that need to share a monitor.
A mate was trying to run one and found for his setup the frequency was more of a problem than the res.

I don't get why there should be a problem with any resolution or frequency. Surely on the display side we're talking about good ol' VGA cables with a physical switch between them.
I still don't understand how the one I bought managed to screw things up.
It's all to do with the way the way that the VGA is switched and the type and quality of the actual switch.Quote:

blurry was because of REFRESH RATE...bet money on it :)
KVM;s are supposed to remember the refresh rate, but you DO have to set it in the first place :)
AFAIK, the refresh rate is set by the PC/Vid card, the cheaper KVM's simply switches the output, I have had el-cheapo KVMs give me a ghosted image which obviously looks blurry.Quote:
