Avoid the NEC's terrible burn quality, Pioneer do Alu fronts alongside regular for each gen of dvd writers (not sure if out for 112, but definitely for 111), sometimes only avaliable in Japan, but superior drives and nicer alu fronts.
Here we go, pioneer 112 IDE.

How about just a bezel for any old drive: Scan linkage
My NEC (2500A) kept disappearing randomly from the PC - they've previously have been solid for me other than that though. :)
Liking my Pioneer's and Samsung's at the moment though. My DVR-109 had a much more attractive cover than the normal silver-painted original. Was still plastic though.
i've been fine with NEC's too, had about 5 in total, but have read a lot about them recently so am thinking the build quality has dropped - last one i bought was a 25xx, so quite some time ago - never needed anything faster...
Nox
My pair of NEC 3500A burners are working a treat, never had problems with them but then again I flashed then to the latest RPC software as soon as I got them, to date never produced a single coaster. :)
My current drive is Lite-On cos I bought a pre-configured system and it came with that. Before that I had an NEC, before that an NEC, and before that an NEC...
Only had to replace them cos they were so old that I could buy one 6 times the speed for £20 or cos I wanted a different colour :)
I have also found NEC drives to be good drives, as long as you don't mind the noise they crank out.
Some of them sound like they are fitted with afterburners....
cheers but those scan links are for drives with silver plastic front covers not aluminium!
Another vote for the NEC here. Absolutely bombproof.
I would suggest the neg comments regarding nec are based on the drives after the 3xxx series, the 3500 was an almighty drive, 3540 was also a killer. A hook up with sony, cue optaric and subsequent reading on cdfreaks has put me off, for now
