Computer says no....

Hi All,
A couple of days ago my desktop started crashing out of games. Then it blue screened a couple of times. Now it steadfastly hangs just after saying "Boot From CD:".

It now seems to be complaining that the nVidia RAID-0 stripe is busted.

I've managed to get it to boot into Knoppix, and I get a load of "Buffer I/O error on device sda1, logical block ......" errors, but I'm not sure if that's just because it's a fake RAID setup.

Anyone have any ideas? Is it really likely to be the disk which is hosed? Anyone know of a disk utility which can scan for busted sectors regardless of the O/S?

It looked like the harddrive have bad sector

If you can still get into windows, may be try HDTune in windows and see if it pick up any bad sector. Or chkdsk c: /R (or whatever drive you got, like d: e

Not sure if DOS based tools will work because they may not detect your raid0 because there is no driver.

Yeah, that's what I'm worried about. I guess I can always rebuild, but I'd really like some reassurance it's not the rest of the hardware that's screwed....

OK to make sure it wasn't anything hokey with the RAM, I did a memtest for 5 hours. No errors at all - so it's looking more and more like a disk problem.

I reboot and it goes straight into XP - no problems at all. WTF is all that about!? Currently running a scandisk.....
