Check my Spec please.
I am currently running an AMD 3700+, Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe, 2 gig of Geil PC3200 and a 512mb X1900XT. All in an Armor LCS with Fluid XP as the coolant.
At the end of next week I was thinking of going over to a Core 2 duo. I mainly use my system for playing games and a bit of video encoding. I have read a few reviews and gathered opinions, but before I order could you check my spec.
Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 - £191.51
Asus P5B Deluxe - £122.19
OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC2-6400 - £112.79
Samsung SH-183LBEBN SATA - £23.49
I welcome any suggestions on improving on what I have chosen.
My budget was about £450. Total came to £459.67 with vat and postage.

how about just gettin a e4300? u could 'easily' get a good clock and htere only about 100.
as for the rest, i think theregreat, also check out the AB9 QuadGT
-
and the AW9D-MAX : http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=535319
Not cheap (£15 more than P5B)but what is.......i only went for it as its one of the few boards i could find that didnt have loads of bad reviews or serious compatibility issues.
On the CPU front, the 6400 (£50 cheaper than 6600) goes to 8x300 easily. Thats alot better value and the temps dont rise dramatically either.
Also you are £35 up to boot.
BTW...If from Scan, why not use the free shipping?

The bits you have chosen are an excellent choice, if you are, or if you arent overclocking.
If you are going to be overclocking and want to save £100, consider the E4300, as they work nicely with the P5B, but may need a bios update.
You dont mention PSU, so if you havent got a decent one, and havent budgeted for it, definately consider the E4300 and put some of your savings towards something like a corsair 520/620 :)
-
I agree with the last comment above, those are excellent selections. Out of the box that would perform great and also when overclocked. Have fun!
-
yeah a good system. but you do have the option of the DS3 and E4300 saving you quite a bit of money.
But if you're willing to spend, then yeah its a great system.
-
I agree with clunk ditch the 6600 for a 4300 as they clock really easily and make sure you get a decent psu, if you havent got one already. I recommend the OCZ 700w GameXStream wholeheartedly :D
-
700W? Thats is definately overkill. Around 550W would be more than enough for a high-end GPU, and moderate overclock on the CPU.
-
Get an E4300, sell your X1900 and get a 8800GTS instead :)
-
Is it true that Intel might be dropping their cpu prices on April 22??
-
It is, around April/May the prices will be coming down quite a bit!
-
looks good, imho listen to opinios above by getting an E4300 and OC it.
Getting a 8800 card would also be a good idea if your upgrading now, loads of people will want that card off your hands.
Im buying my E4300 but cba to wait for the price drop as i have a pile of the compnents not bracketed in 'my system' in there boxes taking up over half my room. especially the antec 900 box its HUGE
-
Hey i know the feeling of the boxes taking over the room, i only recently just had my pc upgrade and still have all the old boxes aswell as the new ones, the theremaltake armour box is BIG, bigger then me stacker!
On that note i suppose i could use it as a shed, until i have finished the build
-
Sorry got sidetracked from reading the posts, yep that system looks mighty good in my opinion
-
would the 6300 not be better then 4300 as it has a higher clock and fsb and is only a fiver more on scan then the 4300
but otherwise the rest of the system looks good as long a you have a reliable psu to power the thing
