Best S775 quiet cooler

For overclocking? running the Zalman CNPS 9500 on a E6600 @ 3.2GHz and im getting temps well over 60 degrees, looks like the chip has a lot more in it so I want to improve the cooling without adding more noise

That's a good air cooler, did you use the zalman grease, or AS5?.. because AS5 can knock as much as 6C off the temps.

AS5, its in a MATX case but its the Silverstone one with 120mm fans front and back so airflows not the issue, perhaps theres to much hot air rising from my vid card as im using that thermalright cooler?
Was looking at the Scythe tower cooler, looks pretty good?

Looking at reviews I think the Scythe Ninja is gonna be the best for my case as it will sit very close to the extractor fan, whats the best fan to use with it?

As long as its a "Plus" model, the one that comes with it is pretty good, but before you buy, you should remember that the Ninja is designed as a passive / quiet heatsink. Although it performs well with highly overclock CPUs, there are others that will do better.

Thermalrite & Noctuna spring to mind, but I'm not an overclocker really.

Tuniq tower with a nexus fan would be your best bet or maybe cheap external water cooling, Zalman and Corsair both do decent kits for just under £100 if you have a bit to spend. If you have time and a dremel you could probably do a simple internal loop for not to much more, depending on space.

You wont go far wrong with a scythe ninja either. I have the bigger zalman, which performs pretty well, but when it spins up it's pretty loud.

I found the simplest solution was to drop back to 3ghz and undervolt the chip. I'm running at 1.28v perfectly stable, but I need to jump all the way to 1.45v to go to 3.2 and above. It all depends if all this hassle is worth 4-500mhz to you.

Yoyotech sell the tuniq(supposed to be getting stock soon) and Scan sell the scythe.

My PC runs 24/7 about 2 feet from the end of my bed. being able to leave all the fans at 5v is a huge bonus

Scythe infinity.

So big it could be passive. Mine has a motherboard controlled 120 on it though. But tbh, I don' think the finish on scythes is as good as nexus.

I was getting the same temps with my e6600 and 9500 on as5, my ihs in the cpu was concave so i lapped it and i got an 6-8 degree drop on load temps. As for a new cooler i would hang on if you can as hexus are finishing up on a huge round-up review on a load of 775 coolers. If you cant wait though a thermalright ultra-120 or the tuniq tower should do the job.

Im holding out for the coolermaster GeminII personally.

Apparently its not great as the older Scythe Ninja in being passive,

I bought the infinity on the weekend, and its pretty quiet at low speed, and the cooling is very good. And you can attacj 2 fans to it, run both at slow speed, and get good cooling, quiet and good OC's
