ok lads whats best timings you have got with your Crucial pc3200 memory if anybody has any. On a ABIT nf7s v2 at 200 fsb. 512 or 1 gig and how high did you get the fsb up.

I could get the last one down to 2 but had to ease off to 2.5 to get the FSB to 200 (Didn't seem to want to boot with both). This was on an Abit NF7-S v2.0

512mb of Crucial DDR400.

Vaul, no doubt you have seen the post, but set the first timing to 11 as that gives improived performance.

It is the top one. I didnt think that the performance increase was as good with single channel, but i have just checked back with Raven Nest's post and it appears that there is significant difference, even though this is just in benchmark form.

On an NF7-S BIOS, same mobo as me. It is the first RAM timing, iirc you get 4 in the BIOS. mine are set to 11-3-3-2.5 atm.

The RAM is probably rated to just above 200fsb (400mhz DDR) its about 217 on corsair RAM. That is just at stock everything, so you probably can run it at about 210 with stock voltages, and timings etc. However as for overclocking, everything behaves differently. I can get my pc2700 to 195fsb on 2.7v, but 225-230 on 2.8v. It depends on how much voltage you are willing to put through it.

Go steady, increasing a few mhz's at a time until you get to the maxium, it is then adivisable to back off by about 5mhz or so, so that the stress on the componants in lessened, thus leading to a longer life.

Set the timings to a conservative estimate, to allow more overclocking, while keeping them reasonbly tight. So 11-3 or 4-3 or 4-2.5 is advisable. (in that order for an NF7-S)

Hi blockers thanks for info i see a lot of people are using pc 2700 on there systems and getting 400fsb ddr could they be putting extra volts through or slowing the timings. in which case there can`t be a lot of diff between the 2700 and 3200 chip wise.

Do think the crucial use faster chips on there pc3200.

Hi vaul did you have to put the extra volts through to get those timings. I had some twinmoss cas2 rated and i could not get the cas to ras lower then 3 whatever i could do.

Few extra volts through the CPU to get it to 2.2Ghz, 200FSB, but the RAM is at stock voltage.

Like I say, I could get it running at 5/2/2/2 all day, but had to ease off to 5/2/2/2.5 when using the 200FSB.

To find out if you get 200fsb. First lower the multipler on the CPU (in the BIOS) so that the chip is ok at stock voltage. try 8. As this would lead to 8x200 (1.6ghz) which my tbred xp1700 will run at with stock CPU voltage.

Basically the difference between pc2700, and pc3200 is the speed they operate (333, and 400 respectivly.) So this means that you pc3200 should run at 200fsb (2x200fsb = 400DDR) with stock everything. So put it straight to 200fsb, then set the diveder to 6/6 (isntead of 3/3.) and the top timing to 11, ill have a look and see what it is called. then 3-3-2.5 would be a good starting point.

Leave the RAM voltagesat stock, until the get problems, such as crashing to the desktop, programs crashing (freezing the computer.) or windows not booting correctly, or no boot from the coputer at all. Then up the voltage by 0.1v test for stability etc.

Yes they have the best prices always. Weird thing happens to me when i try to overclock this ram. When i overclock my processor, which is an AMD 1800+(palamino) and when i get its FSB up to about 150 my ram is running at 222FSB, and it works ok. But when i just have the ram alon overclocked using the ratios or on my board the percentages, i can run at 222 but not 212, when it runs at 212 i cant get a POST. Just thought that was wierd.
