It doesn't want to POST at 3GHz or above. With this mobo I have to enter the Rated FSB (or QDR) which works out to be half the clock speed on the e6400. 1499MHz seems (at the moment) to be the highest QDR that the system will post with.

I'll have a little play with the voltages. I think I've already increased the NB to 1.31 from 1.2, how high (conservatively) is safe?

Ah, sorry, I forgot you were on a 680.

Well, Ive not used that one, but theres a few things you can try.

turn off the sli memory thing.

    turn off linkboost.

    turn off nvidia gpu ex.

turn off all the spread spectrum stuff.

turn off ALL the cpu options, speed step, vanderpool etc.

    disable sli broadcast apperture.

try setting pci-e frequency to 110.

make sure your ram is set to 2t for now.

change to unlinked and manually set the ram to 800mhz, and the cpu to 1600qdr (or whatever you like).

    NB voltage to 1.40v
    SB voltage to 1.50v
    HT voltage to 1.2v

Failing that, try the abit forums, they will probably be able to help you out better than I can

    awesome!

i had to join this forum, just because of this guide!

it is exactly what i was hoping to find! thank you for making such a simple explenation with good pictures.. ive gotten alot of the questions ive had around overclocking answered!

ive been looking for a good guide, because next week i am finally gonna buy myself a real badass stationary computer! ive always had laptops and such due to school/work etc., and i am very keen on doing an overclock attempt.

im getting the e6600 and the pb5 deluxe so it will be easy for me to follow your guide.. could you recommend me a good psu for my system? and are GeIL DDR2 PC6400 Ultra 2 GB good ram chips for overclocking like this?

if you have the time, you could check out my setup so far,
and see if you would recommend me to change anything.. i want the best premisses to get a good clock..

    prisguide.hardware.no/vis_handlevogn.php?waggon_id=46392

I dont know if you have the time or are interested in helping me out with this, but if you can, it would be higly appreciated!

The Ram is good, it will allow u some headroom to overclock. The Cosair 520/620W are good Psu's, just got a 620W yesterday and it looks good and has plenty power. If you use ebuyer you can get £10 off each purchase so try that, unless u can get it cheaper anywhere else. P5B Deluxe is great for overclocking so u shud have no problems there. Any other stuff Im sure Clunk will advise
Edit: cant find ur spec on that page, [prolly cos Im dumb. Might be helpful to fill the Spec thingy on this site so its easy to access.

    Heres the link.

Looks like a good choice of stuff, have a google and double check if the xfi plays nicely with the p5b, I have a feeling it doesnt, but I may be wrong

Dont forget to vote for the thread if you find it useful

Edit: Yes, Corsair 620w should be fine.

thanks! i tried to google it, but didnt find anything relevant, i probably used the wrong keywords.. but i just chose the soundcard on random, so if you could recommend me one that you know works well, it would be great i only need the soundcard for regular gaming and music use..

The onboard sound these days is rather good, if its only music and games surely onboard will do you just fine?

I was planning on getting a soundcard, but the HD audio onboard will do me fine.

That's really subjective. Seeing as a soundcard is very easy to add later you might wanna try it and see if you like it.

It's got HD Audio, there's no driver problems with it what so ever on my board, and I wouldn't imagine it would on the p5b.

To be honest I'm not an audiophile and I've only bought soundcards for previous rigs because they wouldn't do 5.1 and microphone input with only having 3 sockets.

For me, at least, a soundcard seems a waste of time as the onboard does everything I need.

The auzentech cards are great, especially if you want to connect directly to an av amp.

Ive never used the onboard sound on the p5b, but I remember reading that some people had experienced clicks and pops, but that could have been due to other things.

Agreed, and a cheap soundcard is generally better than the onboard sound
