    2.63 Ghz limit

    Hi, I have P5LD2 SE motherboard (i945 chpset), C2D E4300 (Zalman CNPS9700 NT cooler), 2Gb DDR2Kingmax 667 Mhz.
I reached 2.63 Ghz (733 Mhz for RAM) and tested with Orthos for 13 hours. It's stable and the max. temp was 59 (a lot for Zalman, I think that it's not such a good cooler after all).
My problem is that the sistem becomes unstable if I overclock to 2.7Ghz, resets or jams in windows. I increased the Vcore values but I have the same problem. DDR divider is 1:1 (600Mhz for 300 FSB).
I bios I disabled C1, TM2, intel spped step functions. I used Auto for PCI Express (if I set manualy to 100 the system won't boot at all).
Does anybody have an IDEEA what to do? I read on forums that 2.9 or 3.0 Ghz are easally obtained.

You will get more response if you post a thread about this in general hardware.

You are using a 945 chipset, which isnt great for overclocking, and 667Mhz RAM, which isnt ideal either.

Really, you can either just make the best of what your current hardware can do, or buy hardware that overclocks well.

Sorry I cant be of more help

Couldn't you buy a small refrigerator or something, and keep your PC in that? or...maybe one of those small beer fridges, and duct cold air from it to your intake fans?

Sounds silly I know, but...what do you do...its similar to aircon

Not sure what the situation with moisture would be, but as you don't actually have any food etc in there, and there will be air circulating...shouldnt be a problem. Besides...it's quite a Dry heat in India, is it not...depending where you...Bangalore maybe?

There is a little thing called condensation that will put a stop to that, fairly quickly

    Hi There,

I have read through the guide which has been very helpful.. thanks.

    I am setting up a new rig with a P5K MB, E6600 CPU and Corsair CM2X1024-8500C5 DDR2

This Motherboard and RAM are supposed to be able to run at 1066MHz but the Highest DRAM Frequency I have been able to set and load WinXP is 889Mhz.

I have the RAM settings at the recommended 5-5-5-15 2T 2.2v

If I set the DRAM Frequency to 1066MHz it hangs before posting and when I power off and back on it says overclock failed.

I guess my question is. Should I be able to set it to this speed (1066MHz) and something is wrong or is there a better configuration for my setup regarding RAM timing. eg. 800Mhz but at 4-4-4-12.

    Thankyou

    Wyz.

Condensation, is moist WARM air, hitting a cool surface.

As his PC wil be inside a 30 odd degree area, you arent going to get condensation on the case.

If he ducted air from the fridge, it would be dry COOL air going into the PC.

    Meh...worth a shot surely...dehumidifier anyone?

You will get condensation, it is fact.

Why do you think that the people who use sub zero cooling go to such great lengths to insulate their boards, CPUs and sockets? Condensation, thats why

So...in the winter, if I Have my PC in my kitchen, on the side...with the back door open, asssuming we have a more traditional British Winter, rather than the ones we have had of late, and its around 3 degrees in my kitchen...I will get condensation in my case?
Of course I wont, because the cold dense air coming in, may contain moisture, but...when it hits the heat of my PC it will evaporate/vapourise, not condense.

If you look at say, someone using liquid Nitrogen or even a Vapochil, the insualtion is there, to stop the Nitrogen boiling before you want it to, to keep the cold in.

Any moisture in the air, immediately close to the cold surface, will freeze on it but that is not condensation.

Condensation, is caused by moist WARM air (eg. what we breathe out) hitting a colder surface, which causes it to phase change from a gaseous or evaporated state, into a liquid, because water is a liquid at normal room temperatures etc...unlike Nitrogen, which is gaseous at normal temperatures.

Why is it, if I go into a large Comms room, its always chilled to about 7 degrees by aircon? So that condensation can build up on everything?

Not trying to teach you clever guys anything, but...point of fact, not only is it possble, but it has been done.

Stopped typing at "not trying to teach you" and went a Googling.

    http://www.overclockers.com/articles975/index02.asp

Now, further interesting stuff, can be found here

    http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-4272.php

Granted, these guys do have some issues, but...assuming you dont allow any normal room temperature air into the system, your onto a winner...I have my own idea...but never really thought too far, until just now when looking into it...and my idea all seems to be there in parts...

Particularily the use of a water cooling system, seline based, with coils, in a freezer...possibly even using a slush puppy machine....

Further Googling, would suggest that, while salt water may have a lower freezing point, it would only be a few degrees below that of regular water so would be pointless.

Much better would be 1:1 mix of water and antifreeze, which would mean that the freezer can cool the solution to its maximum ability without freezing it.

However, it would also seem, that lowering the the freezing point, also means, certainly in the case of salt water, that it will hang onto it's heat for longer...so...I would propose that a conventional Fan assisted radiator be used upon exiting the PC, prior to it going into the chiller.

What sort of temps do Vapochill units get to by the way?
