Re: C2D Overclocking Guide for Beginners

Hi, I'm using an e4300 on an Asus P5NSLI with a Thermaltake BigTyp 120 cooler. I'm pretty sure I followed your guuide step by step, and have managed to get some results, but they were very poor.

I actually got stuck on the "OC for beginners" part of the guide. My problem is that I can't get an FSB frequency higher than 275MHz, if I try 300 or higher, upon reboot at first my screen doesn't even turn on, then it reboots again, and on the POST I get the message "MBO is now in safe mode, please re-setting CPU or RAM frequency in CMOS setup" (XD motherboard english roxx ).
I've tried upping Vcore and RAM voltages but with no success, it's always the same thing. Here are some pics of my bios setup at the settings that manage to boot:

Oh yeah, and of course at the 9×275MHz frequency, my system is perfectly stable

This guide is for Intel based boards. Have a look at this guide, which is for your board

Is it possible that a P5NSLI doesnt even boot at FSB frequency higher than 275MHz? I've tried feeding the CPU with 1.425 volts, still nothing... Im really disappointed

Yes i have, but its not my board, its a P5N32, which is much more overclock friendly I've read some reviews, and it says everywhere that the P5NSLI is a poor board overclocking-wise, and that most people couldnt go much over 3.0 GHz... However, I haven't even been able to reach 2.5

Well, I'm not sure about that board. I think you will get more people replying if you post in general hardware

What speed is the RAM rated at? and what voltage have you set it to?

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide for Beginners

Sounds like the RAM isnt at 1:1 to me. And AUTO for the RAM voltage, will just give you 1.8v. I know that you say easy tune is reporting 2.1, but what does the bios say? Are you overclocking in the bios or with easy tune?

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide for Beginners

According to cpu-z ram is 1:1 and im useing bios for overclocking not easytune i use it for varios readings and also in my bios with voltages set to auto i cant tell what the voltages are unless i boot to windows and take a quick peak at easytune or something like cpu-z also here a pic of the few settings ive changed

After messing around in the bios abit i made a few changes that seems to have completely resolved my problem Also my ram voltage is 1.9v core 1.33 Also my temps have went down by 10c

Oh and thanks for the guide clunk,

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide for Beginners

Well until i can get my pics up and running can someone just tell me if the following temps are ok.

I am running Orthos on the stresscpu - stress CPu with Gromacs core and i am using Everest to measure the temps and i am getting the following reading, oh i am running an E6600 @ 3006 Ghz.

At idle i get the following temps. (in oC's)

    Motherboard 36
    CPU 35
    Core 1 30
    Core 2 32
    Dimm 33

Under the above stress test i get the following.

    Motherboard 37
    CPU 57
    Core 1 53
    Core 2 53
    Dimm 33

I ve ran the test for a number of hours and it seems fine, was going to try some more OCing but i don't know what the max temp for the cpu is and which temp do you use to read this. I tried to under stand the Tjunction stuff but it hurt my head and is it worth pumping it a bit more or should i be greatful with 3ghz.

Thanks in advance to anyone that replies.
