I got mine today,
and I read the instructions.
It says "CPU surface must be cleaned. Paste residue is to be removed".
Thats is ok, but they didn't say anything about applying new Paste on the CPU.
Should this cooler run without ?

there should be a big lump of paste on the bottom of the cooler (there was on mine) and its ready to put straight onto the cpu.
you can though remove that on the cooler and add some other paste of your choice
but all coolers need to have a thermal paste on them to help conduct the heat away from the chip
hope this helps
Si, if I clean my CPU, and just use the paste which is on the cooler, then I'm good ?
yeah that should be all you need, it seems to be pretty good stuff as its done me fine all this time
Hehe,
the cooler doesn't fit on the Mobo.
I have the Asus Striker Extreme, with the passive cooled chipset.
The cooler alone fit, but if I want to add the fan, no space avail.
ATM I'm cutting away some of the fans borders.
Hopefully then it will fit.
Mission successful.
Lets see how good it can cool down my CPU
Wack it on the board, the paste on it is good and apparently works better than AS5 on it although with AS5 on mine is dropped it a further 3 degrees.
Yeah as long as its got paste on the cooler you'll be fine. Its good paste too!
With the boxed one, my CPU was at 60, now it is at 45.
So good deal, but I had to do some minor changes to the fan.
It was not possible to mount it onto the cooler, as the heatpipes of my mobo are to near to the CPU socket.
So I had to cut a little away from the corners of the fan to fit it in.
But now its good, and so quite :D
Well you can't exactly blame anyone except the mobo manufacturer for that really, and even they aren't fully to blame.
Good deal for sub-£15.
