    New System Wont Boot

    Hey

Just finished putting togeather my new system, i go to turn it on and it wont boot.

When i press the pwr button the cpu fan and other fans ect will spin for about a second no more then nothing. I have tried to removing things like ram, dissconected all other components but nothing.

But when i remove the 4 pin pwr connect from the motherboard (name escapes me) it will boot for about 3-4 seconds before shutting down. After reading the mobo manual it told me that the system wont boot with out this so from what i can see its this 4 pin connector stopping it from booting.

Anyone have any idea why this would be ?

    My spec is:

    Core 2 Duo E6600
    Asus P5N-E SLI 650I Motherboard
    Corsair XMS6400 2GB
    Hiper HPU-4B580 Type R 580W
    GeForce 8800GTS 320MB

Hope that all makes sense at all.

Any help would be great! Or any other ideas to what it could be

    sounds like a fun one..

Have you done everything like makes sure the main power connector for the mobo is pushed all the way down..

When you say you've tried removing things like Ram have you booted on just the mobo, cpu and ram (each stick, in every socket)

Do you get any beeps what so ever?

Is there anything thats shorting it out? Try taking everything out of the case and powering it up with the mobo on a bit of cardboard etc..

    Try a different PSU.
Although the system isnt particularly hungry, the PSU isn't great either.

Does sound like it might be a faulty PSU or a short, although the same behaviour can be caused by other problems, like badly seated cards/memory.

Try using an old PCI video card to make sure that:

    a) it's not related to the 8800; and
    b) it's not that the PSU can't supply the power.

Certainly try it outside the case on cardboard. Always useful. Try with one memory stick only.

As advised by Blitzen it could be the psu.

I had a similar problem with an older system and the psu was kaput.

Have you tried running the mobo out of the case, with just the CPU, HSF, Vid card and RAM installed to see what happens, also try it with just 1 RAM stick in differing slots.

Also remove the PSU mobo connector and reseat it again.

I've seen this once before.....the person had actually rammed the P4 connector in the wrong way....some how they didn't fry the board either.......

Make sure it is properly aligned. There are little clips on both the connector and the socket that should match-up.

Another thing is have you got the correct 4 pin connector plugged in, a power supply i bought recently had two 4 pin connectors, admittedly it was a different brand of power supply but it may be the case for you.

    Hope this helps

I would also say the PSU, although not neccessarily faulty, it sounds exactly like the "incompatibility issue" that a lot of new Asus boards are having with certain PSUs.

    Very true.
The only PSUs that ASUS boards seem to be 100% happy with are the OCZ ones for some reason.

Others have been fortunate but i have NEVER read a report of an ASUS board having issues with OCZ.

(Gamexstreams are great PSUs and very good value atm)

Can i use the 4min mobo conector off my spare one as im rpitty sure its this lead thats causing the problems and run the rest of the components off my exisiting psu to test it ??

    Thanks

Just hook it up at the side of the case for testing, it should reach then.

That should be OK, the plug will only go in 1 way so make sure the latch on connector on the mobo and the PSU line up and that pin 1 on the mobo is mates up to pin 1 on the PSU and plug it in.
