Removing removable devices

So this sata thing is all well and good, but it thinks my 1 hard-drive is removable, which is going to be a bit of a shock to XP when there's nothing left but the ram to work from! Anyone know how to stop sata drives being removable? I can imagine things going horribly wrong if I click the wrong thing...

you shouldn't be able to stop the OS drive afaik.

Yes I have this with my daughters' ASUS M2V motherboard. Most disconcerting at first - but apparently that is how some motherboards do it - you can't stop or remove them but.... I personally don't like it, I only want to set the 'safely remove' icon in the system tray when there is a genuine removable device!

Still we just have to live with it!

SATA is supposed to be plug and play but I'm I read a previous thread that mentioned that there was a driver update from NVidia to fix this problem.

If I can't kill it then that's ok. Still an annoying icon yeah, but I've got a card reader plugged in so it'd be there anyway. Got the latest nvidia drivers so I guess it's just a 'feature' that sata drives are removable (also an asus M2N(PV-VM)). Maybe a new driver will pop up at a later date. Still, at least it's not just my computer being screwy Cheers guys

I remember there being an option to change this in control panel->administrative tools->disk management, but can't remember exactly where.

Had an IDE hd that did this a couple of years ago, n disk management let me change it to a non-removable drive ("Local Disk" it might be called).

I just avoided installing the nVidia drivers and stuck with the default Windows ones to sort this.
