    Strange Sata HD problem

I am experiencing a problem with one of my SATA II hard disks.

I have 2 Samsung 160bg SATA II disks currently ruuning on my gaming rig plus a little IDE 40gb maxtor that I use to store all my photos on etc.

I have another Samsung HD, 160gb again. The problem occurs when I connect this drive. It is not automatically detected during post and delayes the post process significantly. If I manually find this in the Bios and instruct the pc to boot from my Vista system drive, Vista does not load correctly from my other hard drive and stalls on the loading screen. The HD led remains on constantly.

I don't think the drive can be broken beacause it is a XP system drive and boots XP fine on my other machine.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Is the second Samsung SATA or IDE? If IDE then have you checked the jumper settings for master/slave. If the drive is SATA then have you checked the boot order of the drives?

What happens if you connect this HD, but disconnect the 40gb ide and one of the other hds (leaving just your bootdisk and this 3rd hd)?

I'm wondering because your psu is only 480w, you have an oc'ed cpu, 3HD (now trying to connect a 4th) and all the other usual gubbins, this may be too much for the psu.

If this 4th drive works ok with 2 of the others disconnected, you know that this drive is ok, and that the likely prob is your psu.

    Hope this helps.
