Help: New CPU cooler

Hi there, I am thinking of getting a new HSF because the intell hsf is so noisy its getting on my nerves. could someone recommend a new, silent hsf that will keep a intel pentium d820 temps low.

Note: the HSF should be able to fit in a Coolermaster Centurion 5 case.

I use the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro in my Media Centre system (Pentium 955 Extreme Edition).

Practically silent and cheap to boot.

Yepp, I use the same, on a P-D 830
My CPU is now at 38-40 idle, 45 in use.

Yeah the artic freezer is cheap and cheerful. another option would be the scythe ninja could even possibly run it passive. although it is a little more expensive.

Uses the standard LGA775 mounting mechanism (4 push pins, as with the stock cooler) and while is quite tall should fit any case which will take full height PCI/PCI-E cards so long as there is nothing obstructing it.

Looking at the Centurion on the Coolermaster website that should be fine.

I tried out the Arctic Freezer 64 Pro on my skt 939 X2 4200 and I could not get it to install correctly. The first time the retention clip snapped when I tried to lock the clip, I got a replacement unit and it still would not install. The amount of force I was having to apply to get it anywhere near the clips was a joke and I would probably have crushed the CPU or broke the motherboard to get the thing on.

This could be batch related or just not liking the combination of CPU and mobo; but the majority of users with this cooler rate it as an excellent cooler for the price.

Im now using a Scythe Ninja Rev.B which was much easier to install and does an excellent job at cooling even when I turn the CPU fan off and let the case fans and PSU do the job.

Dimensions are given on the Arctic Cooling website.
You will need to do some quick measurements for the case. There shouldnt be a problem with fitting to the Asrock board.

Almost certainly. I can't verify the clearance for the motherboard components, but the case is fine.

I use an Artic freezer 64 pro on the asrock dual sata 939 in a centurion 5 case. Very easy to install IMHO.

I found the Freezer to be a very tight fit on my Asus mobo too, but it *did* fit, and now gives me 10degC lower CPU than my MSI mobo with same model CPU !

Thanx to everyone. Does the Arctic Freezer come with a paste or thermal pad? Which one is better? What tools/products do I need to clean by cpu when I remove the old stock cpu?

I'm not sure if the Freezer comes with paste but I do know other Arctic models come with a small tube or pre applied.

With regards cleaning use

Acetone (available from local Pharmacy) to clean off paste and then Isopropyl Alcohol (again from Pharmacy) to give good shine/finish or

Akasa TIM Remover will do a good job as well I believe.
