Help, fixing the end of a coaxial cable.

Basically, my tv cable has had the end come off, I've bought some new ends, but I don't know how to put it on. I keep getting a shock from it as well :| didn't realise it carried a live current (I think it's more from the copper sheath bit than the middle wire bit). Tried putting an end on, only the wire was too long, and I picked up three channels on my computer including channel 5 (and again, it was sending current through to the case - not good!).

Really don't want to break my PC, so any tips on this? Should be a straight forward job but there we are :p

depending on the plug, its normally really simple, shave off about 5mm of that plastic that is between the copper core, and the outer sheilding, next bit depends on the type of ends you bought, but normally its fold the sheilding back a little bit, place the bottom end of the other plastic down the wire, put the smaller bit of metal on it, crimp it down (plyers will do) then insert into plug, screw up. Job done.

If your getting a shock, its posisble that you've got an amplifer or something? Turn it off, else you might break it.

Its really easy and simple too do this. If your having problems try on a spare bit of cable, until you crack it, that way you don't end up loosing a meter of cable.

Best way of doing this thou, is too buy little wall mouning boxes. Looks a lot neater!

i used to get a shock touching my old freeveiw box!

It's still discharging, I mean if you touch the metal of the connector and the metal of say the computer chassis you'll get a mild shock. But it's working now :). Mum did it lol. The end needed a trim in the end, but the rest wasn't too bad. 69 channels found so far, sure I used to have more... how many freeview channels are there?

80ish i think, but ther are loads more such as music which takes up about 40 extra on top of that (DAB radio)
