Because datafuse.net said that you can't go wrong with dlt3c's if you have the right motherboard and memory. So I will buy the nf7-s and maybe some dual channel RAm or mybe just use aggressive timings with my current memory.

Some of you might have answered this question already but should i go and buy the ABIT NF7-s?

No, go and buy the DFI Infinity Ultra A+. As a user of both I can't think of anything else but an spdif optical out that I need from this 'board. 250 FSBs are not uncommon with these things

looking over responses to my thread pita norf said quote:

Also when I was asking about the week and year of manufacture of your CPU (easily descernable) well there was a reason for that, the week 8 or 9's DLT's were not very voltage tolerant and any voltage above 1.85 would just lockup the machine.

unquote: 1.85 is not safe. Pcpowerplay magazine has been complaining about ABIT letting people use a Vcore above 1.85v because this is just asking for trouble unless you want to damage your procesor because you have another one or it's an old processor like a pentium 2 or you will get another one in a few months, but there is no need to take your processor past 1.85 volts. The p4 3.06 GHz has been overclocked to 3.97 GHz on Vcore 1.8 volts with a vapochill. a 1.85 volt limit is tolerable enough for me.

My 1700XP JUIHB DLT3C (default 1.5v) 0313 chip does 220 x 11 on 1.65v core voltage, 2.9v DDR, 1.7v chipset. This is completely stable with the fan on my Aero 7 at full pelt, I run at 220 x 10 on a day to day basis, using 1.6v core.

I think my chips quite a good one though, being able to clock so highly on so little voltage.

There is a website some where that allows you to input the code from the code and displays all the info about the chip. It has been linked to some where on the forum recently.

The chip will be limited at some point, but until then it is the other componants limiting (saying the obvious )

I would definatly get an ABIT NF7-S, i have got one and they are good everything onboard, (cept graphics). It gives you lots of room to overclock, the only slightly annoying thing is the northbridge fan as its a bit loud, also the chipset cannot go above 1.7v. However this probably wont be a factor, as i have been to 220fsb on pc2700. However it could lead to problems in mega oc's.

As for memory - depending on how much you are willing to spend:
Lots of money:- OCZ, mushkin, corsair
For lots of money you get ultra tight timings.

    Medium money:- Samsung, Kingmax
Still good RAM, but perhaps not has far overclocking at tight timings.

    Low money:- Twinmoss, adata
Good RAM, people have had this very fast, and the great thing is it doent really matter if you knacker it, as you can just go and by some new stuff for £30

For AMD systems you want pc3200 RAM really, as anything more is mucho overkill, specially as a xp1700 is a 333mhz processer. Barton are 400mhz.

As for the voltage thing, above 1.85 isnt really good, but if you are just using it to get an insane overclock and have another system is a problem? as they are about £35 to get 2nd hand? I find with my tbred b xp1700 will be quite happy on 1.775/1.8v, and will only gain 50ish more mhz's if i put the core up to 1.9v. So not really worth it.

On NF7-S set the divider to 6/6 and the top RAM timing to 11. That should make it more stable.

    What cooling do you have?

    Phew, long post
    Will

p.s sorry if this has been said before, i just jumped straight into the theard

1.7 volts is enough for me! And supercooling will not let you overvolt this chip past 1.85 volts without reducing the life of the chip. Nothing can. The reason the processor slowly dies when it passes 1.85 volts is not heat related. http://www.overclockers.com/tips822/

I am still not sure about getting the ABIT NF7-s. Wel if there is a problem and i can't even hit 2 GHz then I will get an AQXEA 2500+.Some of you have said that there is a slim chance that it won't hit 2 GHz even with a crappy heatsink. I know that the chip will probably hit 2 GHz no sweat but if it doesn't then I will get the 2500+ AQXEA.

I only have the hsf that came with my processor. I will get a specialist heatsink when i buy the memory and the mobo.

Getting an XP2500+ AQXEA will make sense because no matter how much I overclock my XP1700+ JIUHB It will still have only 256 Kbs of L2 cache. The 2500+'s have 512 Kbs of L2 cache so they do more work per clock cycle. Does the Pentium 4 Extreme Edition only have 8 Kbs of L1 cache. LMAO . I believe the entire athlon series of processors have 128 Kilobytes of L1 cache. The only thing extreme about the pentium 4 EE is it's price!

Barton is worth ~200mhz more i,e 2.2ghz tbred = 2ghz barton (at same fsb)

I am planning to get an antec plusview 1000amg case as well. Because it has 5 case fan mounts and one that is situated in an excellent position, next to the graphics card. And most important of all it is a grunty looking case. Some have suggested I use aggressive latencies or overvolt my pc 2100 ram instead of buying pc 3200 ram.
