    Question Shuttle SD32G5 with 7900GS?

Here's what I'm looking to get for my nephew over the Easter break but I'm not sure if the Shuttle PSU (200Watt) will be enough to cope with the following?

    Shuttle SD32G5
    XFX GeForce 7900GS
Celeron D 331 (until I can afford a Core 2 Duo upgrade for him - I already have this after buying and using it to test my main rig's mobo)
    2GB (2x1GB DDR2-667)
Seagate 250GB 7200.10 SATAII hard drive
    Generic DVD+/-RW drive

I have the SD32G5 myself and can confirm that it comes with a 250watt silentX psu (model number pc40)

It wil power the above system with no problems, it just won't exactly be as 'silent' as advertised due to the wattage required.

I'm thinking of replacing the psu fans with some quieter ones, just reading up about it at the moment.

Cool, thanks for the reply - I'd be interested to know what fans you end up getting

I used to own a Shuttle several years ago so I know they can be a little noisy

    I've read on a forum about somebody replacing the default Delta EFB0412MD's (40x40x20 mm, 7.0-13.8v Voltage range, 0.72 Watts, 6300rpm 7.17cfm, 24dBA) with two PAPST 412's (40x40x20mm, 10-14v Voltage range, 1.0 Watts, 6000rpm, 5.9cfm, 18dBA)

He says that the psu is much quieter and because the fans were never at full speed anyway the temperature stayed the same.

You can find these fans at overclockers: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...=57&subcat=818

I can't seem to find them anywhere else, and they're pretty pricey too! At the moment im running on integrated graphics, so the psu isnt that noisey, but as soon as my 1950 pro arrives I'm sure it'll start whining like hell... I might wait and see though.

Nice find ... I didn't realise the Shuttle's PSU used Delta fans but it explains the noise issue! Those Papst ones could well be the ideal solution and I don't mind paying extra for a bit more aural comfort.

    Thanks again Tim.
