Front usb ports -case
Gigabyte DS4 board has 3 usb blocks , marked usb1,usb2,usb3. . Now these have pin-out 1-8
1 Power 5v
2 power 5v
3 usb dx -
4 usb dy -
5 usb dx +
6 usb dy+
7 grd
8 grd
My case has two usb ports at front cable being marked roughly the same as above . Cable pins marked power 5v 1 power 5v 2 , data neg 1 data neg 2 . There is only one cable for the two ports so with the pin out above am I supplying one port or are the 3 blocks commoned i.e. pin 1 of usb 1 to pin 1 of usb 2 to pin 1 of usb 3 .

Well I'm slightly confused by all those words but I'll see if I cought your drift.
The 3 blocks on the motherboard are seperate from each other and have two ports. There's only usually one cable for two ports connecting to one of the blocks ala:

But as the blocks have 2 ports so each usb plug has it's own port. So long as all the pins on one block are covered you're using one port per plug, ie it's all good :)
I hope that makes some sense, and is vaugly related to what you asked...

Right , thanks for coming back so quickly . I have wired f usb 1 completely ie pins 1-8 so hopefully that will cover the two usb ports at front of the case . Is that correct ?

Sounds about right. USB ports and plugs on motherboards are mostly standard by now so it should all work fine.

Excellent -thanks again.:) :)
