Help please with vista, also with overclocking please, please

L o all good people from the hexus community,

I Need some help with vista please, 1st, when i restart the computer it never does through windows, i have to hit the reset button, any idea's please. 2nd, the recycle bin got deleted!, i put some stuff in it and when i right clicked on it to empty the recycle bin the whole thing dissapeared!!!

Thats the two gripes with vista at the moment, Next overclocking, i have never overclocked a system before and wondered if some one could tell me on "how to overclock" Like when i looked at Clunks guide it was easy to understand but when i went in to bios i could not find some of those settings, i know the motherboards are different and so some have different features but is there a general rule to follow on all motherboards i am not seeing? and when i go into bios to change something, most of the time, it doesnt seem to be there! need to know please which settings i need to change any help is appreciated

    Thanks again

I have been messing around with the P5n32-e SLI myself this week.

Its not quite as easy as the 965 based boards are for beginners, but it is still easily doable.

Do as it says in the guide, set your ram timings manually and set it to 2t for now.

    sli broadcast apperture - disabled
    nvidia gpu ex - disabled
    linkboost - disabled
    sli ready memory - disabled

Go into the overclocking part of the bios...

set all the cpu settings to disabled (all the spread spectrum controls to disabled) and LDT freq to 5x.

Set memory to unlinked for now.

Choose your fsb, say you want 3000mhz, you need to set the fsb (qdr) to 1333 and set the actual ram fsb to 800mhz (looking at the ram in your sig).

In the overvolting section, set your ram to its rated voltage, and for now, you can leave everything else on auto.

Save and exit, hopefully, it should boot, if not, reduce the QDR a bit, or add a touch of voltage to the cpu.

I'll add something to the guide once I know what I'm talking about

Hey buddy i followed the best i could the guide you did for the memory, so i changed somethings, about 5 in total, i left the rest since i couldn't find the same settings as yours, also what you said above, and now in system it says intel core 2 cpu 6600 @ 2.40 ghz 3.00 ghz.

Thanks again, look forward to your input in future on this thanks

Run orthos on it and get it stable now..you might be lucky and it is stable first time, but if not, its just a case of adding a touch of cpu voltage (vcore) and retesting. If you are patient, it will work

Just downloaded orthos and it works fine on vista on this laptop.

For temps, go on the asus ftp and grab the latest Asus probe, you can also use coretemp and average the 2.

hmmm, I cant test probe on the laptop. Coretemp works, just tested that.

Have a look in your motherboard box, mine came with a vista disc full of summat, not looked at it, but there might be a version of probe for vista?

If its on fire, your overclock hasnt worked properly, but it would have made a great youtube video, so that could be some consolation
