e6600 overclocks

Iam building a new gameing / rendering pc and am loooking to oc the cpu (e6600) i was wondering how well/ high has the 6600 been oced too useing
1 - air cooling and 2 - water cooling.

35 degrees - Idle
48 degrees - Orthos

if you want it to I suppose it might. I went for a comfortable overclock and i wouldn't want to push mine that hard.

wow nice i am planning to buy the antec 900 case ( heard its superior in air cooling) hopeing to get around 3.6GHz with2 gig of corsair dominator ddr2 6400 at 800mhz.

well at 3.6ghz..you're ram will be running 800mhz anyway unless you go for something with unlinked overclocking..so you don't really need dominator ram.

mine was at 3.3-3.6

hoping to get my WC loop back up and running to get lower temps so I can push it higher

could use a new mobo actually (my P5B deluxe isnt my kindof board and my x-fi doesnt work with it) for overclocking on it etc

i wonder if 4 gig of cheeper ram at similar speeds or the dominator oced is better for running cpu hungry programs such as premier pro

Thats pretty interesting i would have thought the scythe to hold up better under load. Are you using a fan with it?

I know, I was just thinking the same. I like to hope he's not using a fan with that, otherwise that orthos temp seems just a tad high.

If he isn't using the fan the Idle seems a bit low lol.

Well 3.6GHz is 9 (multiplier) x 400MHz (Front Side Bus) = 3600MHz or 3.6 GHz

The RAM has a 2x Multiplier so is 2 x 400MHz = 800MHz

So an e6600 at 3.6GHz does not require you to overclock the 800mhz RAM so you don't need amazing overclocking RAM because A..you're not overclocking it and B..you'll more than likely never take that chip any higher than 4GHz which means the RAM is never going to go passed 900MHz which pretty much any decent RAM will overclock to without changing the latencies.

Mine is running at 3.3 and still nice and cool using the stock cooler!

Yeah, the standard Scythe one.

Temps are:

2.4GHz: 32 Idle, 52 Load; 1.325v

3.0GHz: 34 Idle, 57 Load; 1.35v

3.4GHz: 34 Idle, 60 Load; 1.375v

The loads seem a bit high to me as well.... just changed cooler from Freezer 7 Pro for a 2-3C degree drop, so I don't think it's anything to do with hs/f installation because they are consistently high. Case is nice and cool as well...? Must be a bad chip

I had the same sort of temps on my E6600 with a zalman cnps9500.
Try lapping your CPU gave me an 8 degree drop in temps because my ihs was concave.

How do you make sure it's flat?

What do you use, sand paper?

Is there not significant risk of killing it?
