    Infuriating problem with MX1000

I bought an MX1000 mouse last week which is now driving me around the bend. All I can get HL2 to recognise (and work) are the left and right buttons (which I use for primary fire and jump). I have always used the middle button press for secondary fire (HL2 recognises this as mouse 3 in the menu, but won't use it in game). The game will also not recognise any of the side buttons, or the side-rocking feature of the scroll wheel. I'm on the verge of taking the mouse back and getting a refund unless anyone can suggest where I'm going wrong.

In the logitech software, assign the buttons on your mouse a key assignment, then map that key in HL2, worked for me

Yeah as long as you don't mind the 20meg or so overhead of the SetPoint software then that should sort it out.

I had trouble with the software and my MX1000, sent it spinning round in circles every few minutes. Took the software off and it went back to normal. I just made do without and now have the LX 710 desktop set which works fine with the software. You can map the buttons to all sorts, including keys or just the plain old 'middle button' etc.

There is an alternative to SetPoint that someone wrote themselves, I can't remember what it's called. Think it was mentioned on Hexus somewhere, do some searching...

It basically lets you allocate anything to the keyboard and mouse buttons, AFAIK

I've had an MX1000 for a while but I never installed the software. I've never had any problems getting the left, right or middle buttons working, or the scroll wheel.

If you're using the setpoint software then set mouse 3 to 'generic button' - had the exact same problem once upon a time.
What we share with everyone is glum, and dark...
