All those waiting for the FX-53...

...After receiving a lot of advice about waiting for the next FX model because of the 51 being a one hit wonder (the socket 940 type being a one hit wonder), I was wondering if anyone might have anything to say about the following post (with specific reference to paragraph 4)...

    http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/cpu/dis...030090354.html

Anybody heard anything contrary to this?

And as a footnote, anyone got a link to a AMD roadmap pic I saw somewhere on the net (I know, it's a big place) showing '04 Q1-4 release info for AMD's new CPUs? Would be nice to see it again...miss the cute little critter....

    ;P

    Many Thanks

FX-53 is meant to be skt 939 so u can use normal memory dimms - even better for enthusiasts. Although dont expect the price of 51s to come down much cause theyll just be no more production of them - only 1 FX at a time.

Afaik AMD are commited to the enthusiast line and want them to buy FXs not Opterons because they dont want them to make the server market look bad.
I dont like sig pics so i turn off sigs Which doesnt help when i dont know what ive written here! DOH!

Bind -- I wasn't saying that the FX-53 was going to be anything other than a socket 939, just that the article states 'However, in an attempt to increase the value of Socket 940 AMD Athlon 64 FX-51-based systems, AMD has adjusted its plans to support the 940-pin lineup as well' which, in conjunction with the title to my initial thread, would perhaps suggest that those people waiting for the FX-53 because the Socket 940 CPUs would no longer be supported after the FX-51 might want to reconsider...sorry if the previous post wasn't as clear as it could have been.

why are they stopping fx51s as soon as fx53 come out ? i mean, fx51 is still gonna be a lot more powerfuller than any other chip, lowering the price could sell it to the masses

skt 940 will still be supported, id imagine you can still use skt 939 in skt 940 mobos, that's the point - just you dont have to use reg memory.

AMD wants only 1 "enthusiast" CPU released at a time as the market isnt very big. Its for status and reviews and for those people who want uberness and are willing to pay of which there are very few. There is bound to be a cross over between fx51 production halt and fx53 start.
