you could get one with a 30GB HDD for £200

Get an ipod, they are the best mp3 player, whatever anyone else says. I'm happy with the headphones they give you, but some of my mates complain that they're a bit quiet (quiet like putting ur head next to the speaker at a rock concert)

lol, that's a bold statement. Don't worry, you keep telling yourself thatOriginally posted by silent ben

The iPod is the best mp3 player out there. However, even the cheapest model is at least £225 (including student discount).
For £175, you might be able to pick up a 30GB Creative Zen. Very good, for the money.
the iPod ain't the best thing out there, especially not for the cash, thompson jukebox is just as good imo, if you want mb with upgradability the 256mb version of my player can be had for 150 quid
theres a new ipod out soon (or so i hear) not sure on the size in GB but it can hold about 800 songs, and will cost £70. This is all taken from the radio mind so it could be wrong, but heres hopeing
Your paying for the look and "image" when you buy the ipod, and alot at that. Don't get me wrong they are fine players (if you ignore the battery etc..). 30gig Zen for £200 and 60 gig for £300 is great imo. 14 hrs playback too...... would prefer one to an ipod!
If money isn't a factor then the iPod wins hands down, IMO.Your paying for the look and "image" when you buy the ipod, and alot at that. Comparing it to the Zen, it's got the best looks, the best UI, it's the most robust, it sounds the best, it comes with the best headphones, it's the smallest, it's the lightest, it comes in the nicest packaging....
I can see why people would disagree with me though. The battery life isn't the best (long enough for a whole day's play, in my experience though) and it does have a certain rubbishrubbishrubbishrubbishrubbishrubbishish poser factor attached to it.
I've dropped my Ipod while standing up at the train station twice, fallen off my bike onto it, and cycled through heavy rain with it so it got completly soaked. All thats happened to it is a tiny chip in 1 corner.
My friend has a zen, and i wouldn't swap my ipod for 1 for anything. They're too big to fit in your pocket with the case on, they have a stupid tiny moving scroll wheel on the side, and far to many buttons.
Another thing about the ipod is it has the best amplifier available. You can plug it into any pc speakers, or an amplifier with no fear of breaking it.

The Ipod is not the best. It's WAY overpriced for what it is. It's a show off thing mainly (It's looks, size, etc). £250 for the 10GB model? My 60GB Zen cost £300.
And I don't think the Ipod is particularly attractive White looks horrible.
And the Zens have superior sound quality according to many reviews. I absolutely love the sound of mine.

not read everyones comments so i might be a bit late in posting this news but the new ipod is going to be announced at MacExpo which is VERY soon and its a 2gb and 4gb version that hold around 400 and 800 songs respectively.
The Rprices are speculated to be £65 for the 2gb drive so no more than £100 for the 4gb i would imagine!!!
My 20GB Zen is for sale in the FS section!
