Anyone no if current crops of boards such as the P5B will support the new Penryn processors?

I no they support 1333FSB, don't they?

Doubt it, though maybe some will get away with just a bios update, intels own board needed a hardware modification to run them.

Well, its been about 8 months since c2d was launched and you could probably count the amount of good boards on one hand...assuming that you had 2 fingers of course.

I suppose the next question is, is it worth waiting for a penryn board that hopefully run a C2D CPU?

Penryn will be s775 FSB133 CPU and could potentially work in a lot of C2D boards.

I seriously disbelieve that.Intel ,themselves ,have stated that they're thinking of changing the pin count but the formation is still going to be LGA so those 'future-proofed-1333FSB' boards that were assumed to run the 45nm CPUs were quite a marketing trick imo.Although there is going to be some backward compatibility in the form of the DDR2&3 supporting AsRock-style boards to compensate for the HUGE leap in technology.

I think I read that Penryn is going to debut on LGA775 then possibly move to a new socket.

One does not follow the other.

There are 1333FSB chips coming out that will use DDR2. Penryn will use DDR3.

having read a few of those articles im beginning to think Penryn will run on some of the current boards but maybe ill hang fire till bearlake comes along cause having studied the market for a while id like a C2D but then be able to upgrade to bearlake!
