3Dfx Voodoo3, how much cooling

ok my grandads PC is "too loud", so im planning to silence it a little (so he might use it more)

- I has a Voodoo 3 (AGP) card and i was wondering how much cooling it needs??, can i just glue a 60*60*40mm aliuminum H/s on it??

(i currently has a 40*40*15mm with a tiny 40mm wizzer on it)

most likely.. i mean i stuck a AMD heatsink on a GeForce4mx440 i've got with a fan blowing gently on it, so i'm sure if you have a resonable heatsink attached (possibly with the arctic silver epoxy stuff, or maybe just superglue) that should amply cool a voodoo3

my voodoo 3 was passive, never had any problems

Take the whiney little 40MM fan off it. You don't need it.

I've seen Voodoo2s, Riva TNTs, Voodoo3s, etc without heatsinks in various PCs for ages

my old voodoo3 ( sitting on the side, if you wanna buy it ) is just passive

my voodoo banshee reaches 70c with the passive heatsink, burt my fingers by touching the back of the gpu.

try runnig it without the 40mm fan ut i think itll probly overheat

added a 40m fan to it, now its about 50, it is silent though.

assuming it has holes in it lined up with the 40mm fans holes, get a copper cpu heatsink, put the fan over it and use it to drill the holes in right place, get some m3/m4 bolts and hold it on like that.

The V3 doesnt need a fan... just a heatsink.

Gr44 - how much for the v3? i cant remember but does that support dx8?

doubt it even supports dx6 tbh, dx8 is kinda geforce3/4 standard, even a gf2 only supports dx7...

also with a v3 the only windows2000 drivers you get only support openGL (no d3d) you need to use windows 98 for d3d support afaik.

Voodoo 3 is DX6.
Voodoo 4/5 are DX7

there was no DX8 3Dfx cards.

ok so peeps this it will be OK, i mean even if is not enough cooling to play Unreal, MS word isnt that hardware demanding (yet)
