Pretty sure that's what it's been at for a while now.
I think prices have been steadily dropping anyway, £163 is pretty cheap, it was at least £10 more a couple of weeks ago.
£200 -> £190 -> £183 -> £178 and £163 is the cheapest I seen today. Over almost 4 months £40 off. I dunno if its the real drop because its not the 22nd yet . We'll have to wait and see Sunday.
ebuyer have the E6420 for £116 much cheaper than anywhere else i wonder if it`ll go lower after the 22nd or whether they have already introduced the price drop already on this cpu?
There are a bunch of places that have reduced their out of stock chips early. Tekheads have a bunch including the e6700 at £200 and the Q6600 for £350.
Considering I bought my E6600 in January and it was £199, I think thats come down quite significantly. I can't see that chip going much lower than that price.
I think you'd be surprised. The E6700 is going down by about £100 everywehere on the 22nd.
That'd bring it to just over £200, still quite expensive. You can get one of the new conroes and overclock the socks off it and put the cash to something else tbh.
£200 for the second most powerful dual core chip in the world? I think that's ok tbh. And I agree that you can just buy a cheaper one and overclock it but there are a lot of people that won't want to overclock their CPU.
They shouldn't own a Core 2 Duo then

I want the best value for money processor that gives me reliability and speed.
Personally, with the price drops I'm really tempted by the E6700 now, more or less what I was looking at with an E6600 but no need to learn how to overclock

Indeed, all the E6xxx series has the VT extensions. Intel still hasn't updated their product comparison chart, but you can see the pattern though.
