No such thing as the "best" case of all time, but the best one for my current situation is theLian Li PC-A05
Compact height without sacrificing length, good airflow design and a nice finish to the case.
has to be Inwin's A500 built so strong you could sit on it
What makes a good case. IMO airflow and ease of build (a catchall which includes layout, things like motherboard trays, toolless construction, materials used, etc.) come at the top. While looks are important, these are not only in the eye of the beholder but a secondary consideration. Also important is cost, although cost is not a metric that can readily be applied to "best".
While Lian Li make good solid cases, some of those touted here do not have good airflow compared to better cases, despite claims to the contrary. They seem an expensive way to have hot components.
Anyway, the fact is that cases are getting better all the time, so any of the older cases are unlikely to be "the best case in the history of the world".
it's really hard to say what is the best case, it comes down to what you are using the case for and what you like the look of....
the antec range of cases are very good, however for top end gaming system , when using sli/crossfire with the 8800 or r600 graphics cards, the best case would be -
Silverstone TJ-09
it is a very well built with good cooling, and one of the few cases that can fit 8800/r600 graphics card in sli/crossfire
mark
My vote for the Lian Li as well. I have one and despite other comment it has good cooling excellent finish and just looks cool.
With any case there are always some negatives, nobody has developed "the best case".
If I had to choose again it would be a fight between the J09 and the A10B.
Lian Li V2000+ no problemo
Oh yes
antec 900...........................
Lian-Li Pc7
Quality aluminium for the masses
I suppose it depends what you want from a case. The best I have owned so far is the Antec NSK6500 for around £60 including the quiet PSU it was a bargain as far as I am concerned. I have a fairly average system cooled in relative quiet, the case is good quality and has some rather nice features wrapped up in something that actually fits under my desk .
I personally am thinking Antec Sonata as IIRC it was the first enclosure designed with noise as the first concern
There's lots though really. Most beautiful - comes down to taste - but I like those mini towers 'book' pcs. Not a fan of the 900. Got a P180 myself and love it, it's gorgeous and pretty much silent.
Best case IMO is the Akasa Eclipse.
Easy to work in and all black whereas Antec charge you extra for black interior (P182SE)
Lian Li PC60..
Its the only constant in my system and has seen 4 or 5 complete generations of hardware, right the way back from a original PIII celly, P4, Althon, Athlon XP, Athlon 64, Athlon 64 AM2
At one point it was housing 9 hard drives, and 3 optical drives
