7600/7900 GFX and AMD 4200+ X2 CPU query

Hi

I currently have trusty 9800 Pro 128MB card (silent fan mod - recycled XP2500+ FAN ) and 3800+ 939 venice CPU.

Considering upgrade to 7600GT or 7900GS GFX card for £66 and £93 respectively. Also, can get 4200+ for £82.

Would these make a big difference as most use is internet, dvd decoding and occasional gaming (COD, Fifa 07...) or best just to stick with what I have?

Does ur current setup struggle with what you want to do? If it does then the upgrade might be worth it, otherwise it wont be worth it. Processor probably isnt worth upgrading but graphics card would show a definite improvement. 7900GS might be ur best bet.

The better Linux drivers alone warrants parting with £93 for a 7900GS, good performance with modern games will just be a pleasant side effect

TBH, with new ranges of CPUs coming out very soon, its better to wait - unless your really struggling with what you have now...

For graphics well it depends on how much you play games

Actually, for the CPU, it really isn't better to wait, 939 CPUs are a good bit more expensive than their AM2 counterparts and the margins will keep growing before they fall off the edge of the market entirely.

I reckon the best all around improvement would come from another gig of RAM and the 7900GS looking at your system spec or you could stretch the budget a little and go for 7600, gig of ram and the CPU.

yea thats's what hes talking about, AMD K10 and Intel Penryn and others. they will probably be at high high prices but it will push down current cpu prices so you'll save/be able to buy better components.
