    Cooling an E6600/965-DQ6

    Hey everyone,

Its upgrade time again. I've been lurking on hexus for a few weeks, and as a result of all the existing posts, and various reviews, I put together:

    • Gigabyte 965-DQ6
    • 2GB OCZ 6400 PLATINUM
    • Seasonic PSU
    • BFG 8800
    • Core 2 Duo 6600

So thats all in the bag, really. Only waiting on the processor now. Oh.. and the cooling

My budget limits me to air cooling, and I need something that dosn't require a mount on the back of the board.(I want to keep my warranty ) I've got some moderate over clocking in mind, though.

I'm looking at the Scythe Miné(24.19/Scan), but the reviews are a little mixed.

I could stretch to the Zalman CNPS9500, but there's that damn heatsink again!

So, how're you cooling your DQ6?

Any of the big scythes are good, or theres the Arctic pro for cheaper, but less performance.

How much have you got to spend?

Mounting a cooler using a backplate shouldn't void your warranty. Out of the Scythe Mine and the 9500(it uses a backplate for 775 btw) the scytche mine wins out everytime, that goes for just about all the scytches.

For cheap and very good cooling a Ninja(or similar) can be fitted with dual 120mm fans which gives very good cooling, you'll need to get another set of fan mounts from scythe, but they'll send them you free.

Around 30 quid, really. Maybe a little more, if the 6600 price drops further

Looks like i'll go for the Scythe Mine, good price point a couple of thumbs up seems enough to tip the balance away from some of the so-so reviews.

    Thanks for the input

The noctua is a quality cooler, and this is a pretty good price for it:

CustomPC have a large roundup of HSFs in the current issue, should be able to find a copy in your local ASDA.

Might be worth a quick read before buying...

Depends if it's a retail chip or not. You usually void the warranty on a retail CPU simply by changing from the retail cooler.

Go for the scythe ninja, its the best performing cooler that uses the standard intel push-pins.

    No not necessarily

It's all about how you do it not about how big and heavy mine is
