    right have looked at both of them and they say the following mate

    0001

    mastertimingmode allowed=0xffffffff(4294967295)

    there is no SlaveDeviceTimingModeAllowed in this folder

    just the following
    slave device detection timeout
    slave device timing mode
    slave device type

    in folder 0002
    reads the following

    mastertimingmode allowed=0xffffffff(4294967295
    slave device timing allowed=0xffffffff(4294967295

    there is also a user slavedevice timing mode allowed in this folder which reads

    userslavetiming allowed = 0xffffffff(4294967295

    Press the pause key to pause the POST screens - simple, lol.

    I'd try the previous suggestions of uninstalling your IDE channels from the device manager and rebooting - but first - get some updated motherboard drivers from your motherboard manufacturer - it's something I'm sorry to say we've overlooked in this thread.

    If you know your motherboard has a via chipset, go to www.viaareana.com and get the latest "Hyperion" drivers from there.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    'export registry file..' i think its called (within regedit, in the toolbar), then you save it as a .reg file, which you could open up in notepad and then paste stuff across if needed, tho i dont see why you are having problems

    yeh i read it back, and it sounded a bit wierd heh, but i honestly dont see -how- there can be any problems, and those are the problems which are the most annoying as there is no logical explanation for them... i mean you have the right drivers, you have the right cable, you have a ata100 harddrive hmm... all you did was take your system apart then put it back together... computers are so fickle.

    I would forget about the hyperion IDE drivers as they are a complete nightmare, they have caused me problems on several Via motherboards. I usually go with windows XP default via busmaster driver and I get no problems.

    I have experianced this exact problem before. asicaly whenever you geta CRC error whilst reading/writing data to your HD it will automatically drop a DMA level until it gets to PIO mode, once its in PIO mode the only way to get it back to DMA is to unsinstall the primary IDe controller and reboot should reinstall itself and ask you to reboot again. if you get this problem over and over you probably have the problem I had with my maxtor 7200 80gig drive, in that it was buggered and had to be RMA`d

    g4z does it remember that it has dropped levels as i did unistall the primary ide controller and reinstall it and it did pick it up in dma mode but only mode 2 and not 5

    but tbh i never really checked this until i noticed my machine going very slow so in all honesty this drive could have not been running at max from the start

    got this new from a comp fair mmmmmmmmmm was it new

    i do hope its not but it dosent sound very promising
