Faulty 17" TFT = Possible DIY Digital Picture Frame?

Hi all,

I have a faulty 17" TFT....deffo a power problem or something, but i am 99% certain the LCD/TFT itself is perfect.

Does anyone know if it is possible to turn this baby into a DIY DPF? I knwo some have had success turning old lappys into DPFs...but dunno if it is feasible to do this using just a LCD.

Obviously you would need some sort of processing unit and OS......

Actually, comethinking about it....it's not going to be economically practical.....:angst:

probably not, ideally you'd need a light OS with a framebuffer and the ability to render all the common image formats, jpeg, png, etc.. Linux could do this, and you could get the hardware for it, but it would be a lot of work and money.

Tis what i was thinking towards the end of writing the thread....ho hum.

What can i do with the TFT? Bit of a waste to just dump it...

Well if it is a power problem you will need to sort that you use it as a DPF anyway.

For a small, low powered system board for this kind of thing, look at the up-coming pico-ITX from VIA, they are very cool :)
