Isn't the plus less powerful than the ultra? My ultra has a brown impeller to aid recognition.

    http://www.alphacool.de/index.php/cP...ing-pumps.html may help a little?

Well, aparently, the plus becomes an ultra when it has the different top??.

    This has a blue impeller.

Clunk, any particular reason why u going from a D5 to a DDC? Thought the D5 was better due to higher flow rates etc, or is that not too important?

I bought it the other day, when I was keeping the G70. I needed the space on the floor of the case and there was nowhere to mount the D5, but the DDC fit perfect on the motherboard tray

Have u used it then and whats it like? I was thinking of going with the newish 18w model, cud get the 1 with plexi top so I can mount it in a 3.5" bay, or just get the Petra top one which has higher flow rates, cant decide

I havent used it yet. The mobo tray is the tray that the mobo screws to

Its the 18w with Petras top.

LOL Im not that stupid, but my missus wud argue that . Its just usually theres not much space on the tray once the mobo is there, was curious as how it was setup

From what I remember (and have read on other forums)

    Black Impeller - 10W version

    Brown/Red Impeller - original 18W version (plus)

Blue Impeller - Newer 18W version (ultra?) with better performance (enhanced flow rate I think)

I am more than happy with the plus at the moment, infact it was too powerful for mine. thinking about getting the petra top, looks to provide top performance

Here, top right of the motherboard, you can see there are some holes already there.

You want the pump to be below the res, so that gravity helps avoid it getting starved of water (which will kill the pump). It's about the only hard fast rule I've been told about watercooling - the order of the rest of the components doesn't matter too much, but the pump should be immediately after the reservoir and below it.

    Cheers,
    Stephen

I think you may want to read this thread Clunk

    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=118650

What I did was buy the 10w version for £35, bought the top I wanted for £12, (apparently some (Petra's ?) can damage the pump; and then modded the pump to make it 18w.

£47 all in and it works brilliantly.

I read that thread yesterday mate thanks Looks as if the DDC in general has a problem with starting, regardless of the top? Ill see how it goes and if it has problems, Ill stick the D5 back in
