pricecheck/fault-diagnosis: faulty G3 powerbook
Mac G3 Powerbook
400MHz/1Mb cache/64Mb ram/10Gb HDD/8Mb video/DVD
10Gb HDD currently removed until I can wipe it of personal data.
Fault: doesn't boot up at all. It used to work A-okay, then a replacement G4 was bought and the G3 sat in a drawer for like a year. It was taken out of said drawer and has not booted up since! If I plug it in and hit the power button I can turn the num/caps-lock lights on and off so something is working. Holding the power button in for a further 7 seconds turns this off as you'd expect but nothing else responds. The battery does charge up but neither the HDD or DVD make any noises.
The shop it was taken to told my mum that "the soundcard is broken and will be more than the laptop's worth to repair" though that sounded weird to me?
Anyone got any ideas of what the fault might be? I figured there might be something that discharged excessively or something...?
Alternatively, any idea what it might fetch sold as faulty/spares?
