i want to build a new system and was looking at the 2.6 800fsb pentium 4 or the 2800 amd which would you guys go for also i want to get a shuttle and was just wondering which one is best for me as i play games and download a lot?

Those two CPUs - the AMD'll be more powerful!

Thing is - in the XP K7 range, the AMD is slightly less powerful than the P4 equivalent although there half the price

- Just get a few ratings up and still save some moneh!

Get a locked 2500 with the 11x multi and turn it into a 3200 with some minimal Vcore action is my advice, sure you can find something else to spend the saving on

Actually personally I would go for Intel P4, my next upgrade will be a P4 3.2 at some point.

But i will bow this low and say AMD give you an excellent processor for a fraction of the cost. Can use the dosh you save buying an AMD on a better graphics card or something.

So summary.

Money to burn = Intel
Budget = AMD

God I hate Intel! But Flanderz is right, AMD will give you fantastic performance for your money, whereas Intel won't.

*cough* sorry - whereas Intel may offer slightly higher performance at a much higher cost

and as for gaming....AMD is your best buddy

And lets face it.....both of those CPU's is like LIGHTNING FAST....but with AMD you get some stunning motherboard options with nForce2 and therefore some major performance built in as standard.

Intel fair less well, as they so rightly point out, on the "Cost per Performance" or "Bang per Buck" score boards.

AMD all day long.

just comparing the chips rather than companies, there's really not much to decide between them, and once they were installed you'd be hard pressed to tell between them when running at standard speeds.

i don't know about shuttles, if that is what you are intending to put this in? so i guess it depends what shuttle systems you can get for either as to which i would choose in that situation.

if i was choosing full size system though, i'd be inclined to go with the 2.6C for the slightly more exciting 'tweaking' possibilities

id go for the amd. if youve got lots of money maybe amd 64bit cpus may be worth looking at though i dont know anyhting about them really... apart from a few benches showed them beating a p4 at 2x the clock speed.
cant really o/c well in a shuttle. the only point in getting a p4 imo is to o/c it to ~3.5ghz.
may aswell get amd, save a bit of money and get a decent gfx which will tbh give much more noticable image quality and performace increase. 9600pros can be had for around £100 now, they can be o/ced to 9600xt or better..

Just looked at your sig maybe 200fsb isn't an option with that RAM

Ask the RAMguy in "Corsairs house of help" What chips you have in your RAM, if it's not the sort to do 200fsb forget the Intel setup, they are ruined not being able to do 200fsb 1:1 @ stock speeds AMDs equal PR rating chips own them. If it is possible look at the cost of the Intel CPU/shuttle combo Vs the benefits of being able to get an AMD CPU/shuttle/new GPU for ~ the same money
