    power thingy

As Im gettin pretty close to my watercooling system, there is one thing I cant fathom. When I do a leak test or Im filling the loop in my system, how do I get the pump to turn on without turning the pc on and off for a few seconds? Cos when u filling the loop u have to do it bit by bit, and turning it on and off like that cud cause some issues. Is there some kind of electrical device I can buy that will power my pump so I can do this(with a plug that will fit the pump plug ie 12v)? I wudnt know really where to start lookin or what it wud be called

You need to do the PSU trick, theres a green wire, pin 4 I think and there is a black wire next to it, get a paperclip and bend it so that it pushes into both those pins on the PSU, then when you turn the psu on, it will start the pump...., try and attatch a couple of things that will drain some current so you dont knacker the PSU as well.

Some PSUs wont let you so this, so youll need a cheapo psu if thats the case

P.S. Ill see if I can find a wiring diagram.

Yeah I did see this awhile back while reading stuff on WC, but cant rem which wires to bridge. Been lookin ages and cant find it again (think it was black and green but not taking chances if im not sure). So theres no electrical device that u can buy that will supply 12v to the pump?

I'm 100% sure that its as above, Ive done it loads of times. A paper clip is what you need.

By the way, did you manage to get a MM case?

Well, delivery from over-clock is at least 4 weeks, MM are quoting 4-10 days to get to the UK, and then however long it takes to get through cutoms.

Dunno about xmas, but it will be close by the time you get a MM case

Some places sell an adapter that fits onto the plug, but it does exactly the same thing a simple paper clip. No point in them really. When you do it make absolutely sure the right connections are linked. And turn the PSU off at the mains before removing the paper clip afterwards. I know these things are obvious but its easy to not do them when your mind is on something else exiting like your new rig.

PS. make sure the psu and all it's wires are well clear of any water and tubing with water in them. I was so paranoid when i first done this that I spent an hour and a half clipping wires of an old PSU and soldering them together to make a really long extension cable that would fit into the pump

If it is me I'll just find a 12V supply in my house and hook it up to the molex (I used that to hook up external fans)

I don't suppose a water pump will use terrible amount of power that will overload a variable power supply

hmm cud be an easier sloution really. Thats why I asked if there was some kinda electrical device that I cud use instead of bridging a power supply, wud be a hassle that way and leak testing it with my 1yr old son running around and touching things all the time cud become a bit hectic with a live open source. So its a variable power supply Im looking for then? Wud u have to modify it so that it had the right connectors?
