    Oh Poo...

Just been testing the Geil value RAM (DDR2, 533MHz, 4-4-4-12, 1.8V) that I got from OCUK yesterday.

Stuck 'em in my PC and set them to 800MHz, 5-5-5-15, 2.0V and left Memtest86 for a few mins, they failed after about 10 minutes, I left them for longer and even more errors came up

So then I went into BIOS and changed them to 800MHz, 5-5-5-18, 2.1V and errors occured again.

Then tried 667MHz, 5-5-5-15, 2.0V and they failed AGAIN.

Lastly I stuck 'em at default values of 533MHz, normal V and 4-4-4-12 and they STILL bloody errored !

So basically have I screwed them up by pushing them to 800MHz ? Shall I RMA them to OCUK ? Or... ?

If they're from OCUK they were probably shafted when you bought them. Both memory kits I got from them were..... probably company policy to save money sending them back to their suppliers

Well, they are likely to error at 800mhz, given that they are value ram designed to run at 533mhz.

You could well have damaged them by overvolting them. Ram is really easy to kill, even by accident.

You could try a full cmos clear for a few hours with the ram out. When you put them back in, run them at stock settings.

It could be a setting on your DS3, I know that on asus boards, having the legacy usb disabled stops the errors.

Finally, be aware that Overcockers will charge you for testing, and wont refund any postage.

Looked at the reviews and the 667 version can get to 820MHz... but you're probs right.

Spec on Geil website says 1.8-2.1V so hopefully not.

Will try that later tonight, cheers

Any chance of direct RMA to Geil ?

Final thing is to test them stock in Windows, run a game for a bit and see if it BSODs, if not then maybe what you said about something interfering with Memtest might be right and I'll probably flog 'em on ebay. Just got 2GB of Corsair 667 for £47.17 delivered so it COULD turn out not so bad after all...

Update: Managed to play CS: S for nearly an hour with the RAM at 533, 4-4-4-12, 1.8V, maybe Memtest is just borked ?

So you think that if I put too much stress on the RAM it'll fail ?

I had a similar problem with the Geil 4-4-4-12 from Overcockers. It was the 6400 supposedly decent stuff.

It errored constantly in memtest, and also in vista boot menu, at 1.8/1.9/2.0 and 2.1v and at a variety of speeds including auto.

I RMAd it with memtest screenshots and they sent it straight back saying they found no errors (interestingly they didnt send any screenshots) and charged me £20 for the priviledge.

I ended up ebaying it and lost £50.

Ouch, well I'm definitely not sending it back to OCUK, might try and ebay it as I only paid £23.50 for it...

Exact same happened to me. Just threatened them with small claims court and they coughed up.
