    What RAM to buy?

I was advised to buy some Crucial Ballistix RAM for my upgrade to go in a P5B Deluxe motherboard (probably). Cost of the Ballistix is £211.49 for a pair of 1 gig sticks.

Then I came across some Geil RAM which is under £67 for the same amount. It's GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC), and it has rave reviews - all 5 stars.

Is there anything to justify the price differential. I have had loads of Crucial RAM in the past, and it's always worked. It's also only been a tad more expensive. Here, it's 3 times as much!

I am very tempted to go for the Geil RAM, but I wanted to hear from you gurus first please.

Oops, not being fair to Crucial. The £211 Ballistix RAM is DDR2-1000, whereas their DDR2-800 is 'only' £122. Still that's getiing on for double the price of the Geil RAM.

That Geil ram is great as long as you remember to set the voltage correctly.
There are loads of folks using it here and I have not seen any complaints except for the price of it now maybe as most of us bought it at the bargain price of around £113.

Go for the Geil, DDR2 prices are dropping, but most sites wont updates prices on older stock until they get new in, thats the only real reason for the huge price difference.

800mhz RAM is plenty for Core 2 anyway. I only went for my PC8500 because it was cheaper than most PC6400 at the time. Makes very little difference in performance.

I'd have the ballistix.... PC8000 now only £100 and it's supposed to overclock really well. And the Geil I got was no good, a lot of people say its good, but mine isn't stable at anything over 2.1v
