    sound problem when overclocked

I have a msi neo2 platinum with a amd athlon 64 3000+ venice runing @ 2.7ghz stable (70 hours + testing with prime 95) on a hyper 6 cooler i am running 1 gig of elixir ram asyncrnous so it stays at stock speeds i have a ati 9200se graphics card and im using the onboard sound card that is built into the neo2 platinum.

ok my problem is that i have a horrible static noise through the speakers/headphones when i start up my pc and it stays pretty loud however if i open windows media player and start a song then stop it or if i open msn when it makes the noise for having mail the static noise becomes much quieter but it is still present, the static noise changes pitch constantly it is driving me insane. i was hoping someone might know what is causing the noise or how i can prevent it

oh also the static isnt present when the cpu is not overclocked

Lower the FSB would be my first point of call as I'm guessing your sound card doesnt like it..
Have you got another card you can test with it might nto complain about the higher FSB.

well the htt multiplier is set to X3 from X5 so the actual htt speed is 900 mhz (300x3) instead of 1000 and the pci/agp bus is locked at 67mhz, i dont have a pci soundcard to try in the system, do you think it might be because of the sound card being integrated into the motherboard that it causes static when i overclock, also could it be possible that it is caused by my powersupply?

What sata port/s are you using, 1+2 are not locked, 3+4 are locked

^^ thx for posting, i have known about the sata ports since before i bought the mobo, and my overclock was implemented correctly this i know as i was very active on the xtremesystems forums when the neo2 plat was first released my rig has been running this speed for over 2 years now the only casulties suffered were my crucial ballistix ram which basically melted after 6 months (its not as good as i thought it was) and 2 psu's have been devoured so far, the sound thing is not something i noticed untill about 6 months ago because i had started to play americas army a lot and would always put a headset on as i sat down... so it was sort of like ''hear no evil'' and it wont affect you.
