..I butchered a USB cable and re-routed the 5v power to a USB device (Matrix Orbital LCD) from the USB port, to a 5v output from a molex connector for example? Would that play havoc with the USB device being detected, or make something go bang in a plume of smoke?
The reason I want to do this is that my mobo always provides power to USB when the PC is off and there's no way to disable this as far as I can see, so I'm trying to think of possible solutions
If you get the right wire, I can't see a problem with it.
But I thought the USB connection was also the way the device communicated to the PC?
You know you could always try the swtich on the wall socket once you've shut down your pc ;)
....and then his BIOS battery would be dead in months not years....
Can you turn off wake from keyboard/mouse or usb in the BIOS ? This might be what keeps them on.Quote:

Sorry it's not my NF7 :) It's the Gigabyte board in my HTPC
Tinners, perhaps you could leave the info in there, as other people may have similar issues, and that might be helpful in the future...

Or you could always just buy a couple of spare battering for a few pounds. The Small Battery Company are quick and cheap.
