Speakers £100

I made a thread a while ago about getting new speakers but became busy with exams, and so did not look into speakers enough to make a decision. Anyway, as before I want to spend around £100 on a 2.1 speakers.

I would like to have the set that is best for gaming. No I don't want 5.1 speakers because my desk area is unsuitable, and they are more expensive for a good set .

Wattage is independent to sound quality.

Trust me 90W for a 2.1 set is still loud unless they're in a big room with lots of people

I have the ones down from them, the mx5020 (£15, yay). They're good, but I know the 5021s are much better.

When I went to Scan to pick up some MX5021's I came out with a Creative 5.1 set... whoops.

my mate has a set of the altec lansing speakers and theyre immense. so loud and have good sound quality no real disstortion at full blast

The latter, yes.

I do - £500, 600w Panasonic Home Theatre, 5.1, 5xDVD Changer. Couple others on this forum have got some nicer setups though (Howard, BSOD Mike)

But, in recent times I've actually used a 7 year old Labtec 2.1 set I got with a Time PC (admittedly an expensive upgrade, but old) more, and they are still going strong. Not bad sound, not amazing, but not bad.

Try and pick up some Acoustic Energy Aego M's, they're the best 2.1 setup you can buy for the £100 mark.

Its debatable whether THX makes a difference at all. For example, between £1000 THX speakers vs £1000 non-THX speakers

Yes they do look nice, but are they really better than the altechs for games? What benefits are there having THX in games and films ect.

A mate has the Altec Lansing speakers and they are impressive enough. Got some good bass to them & they seem more then loud enough for the average user & listening requirements. Will be round at his 2morrw, ill see if i cant get a proper listen to them.
