Does any body have a clue when it is?
I am trying to decide if I should wait for it and buy a cheap gfx card to get me by or to just get a high end 8600 now (I watch HD stuff more than I play games)
Release date please :)!

supposed to be middle of may..14th. so 2 weeks if thats right.
An R600 isn't going to do a anything for your HD stuff, it's basically a gamers card and everything indicates that the 8800Ultra will give the same kind of performance at the same (or less, ATi hasn't published anything on the chip) price, and is here no, with the G81 already lined up for manufacturing nVidia has the lead by a large margin.
Release date?.. Same as Duke Nukem Forever.*
* Joke
Apparently it is going to be the first card capable of VC1 HD encoding?!?!?!?! The 8600gts is already better than the 8800 at HD. It seems like the r600 might be the new king of everything??!!
ATI have a HDMI convertor (HDCP compliant) and built in sound over HDMI so yes, they will do stuff for HD viewing :)
It is going to be soo good! any idea on prices as well guys?
We don't know how good it will be with HD acceleration until it come out...

UVD provides hardware acceleration of H.264 and VC-1 high definition video formats used by Blu-ray and HD DVD. The AVP allows the GPU to apply hardware acceleration and video processing functions while keeping power consumption low.
Well I dunno if it's going to be good - and the HD version may be delayed a while longer. Kinda hope it rocks else nVidia will keep their prices sky-high.
a 50quid CPU can decode VC1 and MPEG4 on-the-fly using less then one of its 2 cores....
I fail to see how decoding can be a selling point these days......
Yeah, gotta cover your ass in this insanely over-legislated world, sense of humour is nearly dead :surrender:
lol
I'm thinking of getting a 1080P set - i really think i'll need some kind of acceleration for that..
