Wireless Speakers

Thought it would be cool to get some speakers set up in my room connected to my new lappy. It would save me having to walk all the way over the other side of my room to my desktop to play music!!!

Got an HP DV2225nr Lappy.

Jsut wondering its possible to get wireless speakers for a non silly amount

Wire > Wireless.

Housemate has a set of wireless speakers, and they are ok, but wired speakers (even with a long cable) are better imho.

what dave said is true, but if you don't mind dreadful sound quality, then there are some bluetooth ones out there... I can try to find model names if you are interested (I think they were mentioned in my free copy of T3 mag)...

This is something that's always puzzled me with 5.1 setups, you have to hide the cables under the carpet (hard to do on wooden floors) or run them along the skirting board.

How come wireless speakers have not been developed so that they're more popular?

I think you lose some quality as opposed to wired in ones. At least historically anyway. Although the Infra-red based ones are meant to be quite good. I guess the other issue is power - the speakers have to have either batteries, or be plugged into the mains.

You can do either. I know some people who tuck it down the side of the carpet along the skirting. Mine go right under floor boards for the rears Under the carpet also works if you have thin enough speaker cable

I think most people would still need to run power cable to the wireless speakers anyway, so you are talking extra cost and lower quality being wireless for less of an advantage.

Mate if you still leave your desktop on all the time why dont you just stick with wired going to that? If you are really lazy you could use remote desktop to stay at your laptop and change your music from where ever you are in the flat!
