Weird Weird, scrolling with mouse makes HD chip?

Whenever I scroll with my mouse on a webpage. I use that little round ball on top, it makes my hard drive like squeek. Atleast I think its my hard drive, I am not sure... I've almost gotten used to the noise but still, shouldnt be happening.

Sounds as if your browser is solely using your page file to load...
Well, thats my 1st impression, wouldn't know exactly.

Does it happen always or just after playing games etc?

What happens if you go straight to the browser after a reboot ?

shouldn't be using his pagefile solely as he's got a decent amount of ram, are you using windows xp? if you are try turning your hdd power saving options to always on.

I just restarted and it ALWAYS does it. Hard Drive always on doesnt do it m8. This is odd. I'm kind of worried because I bought another Raptor Drive (the 70GB version) so I hope that one doesnt do it as well. Its not the mouse or anything, because even if I click and pull down the scroller it does it, but it hums instead of clicks.

My Cuda occasionally did that... not squeek, but you could hear the read head going. only with the mouse wheel in IE. I never really understood it, but then again, I never cared enough to find out, as it didnt bother me, and i changed over to Firebird, and it stopped happening

That’s why I was asking about the games, I know after a General’s session although ram is @ 140/512 my page file likes to take over everything...


The noise is defiantly not coming from speakers? I know it's possible, to have an accessibility setting that makes clicks or whatever when scrolling.

I only play Counter Strike, so I dunno... I'm upgrading my memory to 1GB of the fastest this will take so I guess we'll see how it runs after everything.

About to start battlefield 1942, never got around to installing it... Heh I just dont buy many computer games or play them anymore. My buisness runs Halfe Life servers so theres a reason why I play CS.

i've noticed this too but im using SATA Maxtors. Is it not the psu fans? Putting it under load so the fans speed up? i dunno.

that used to happen to me, aint noticed it in a while though, dunno what it is mine was definatly the HDD's though, not speakers, wierd - btw, i havent changed any thing in my system since it last happened lol

could it possibly be the PC speaker attached to the mobo?

easy way to check it, just pull it out and see if you still get it.

This was discussed on another forum, it turned out to be the capacitors on certain graphics cards. To stop it happening you need to turn off "Smooth Scrolling". Under the "Internet Options" tab, Click "Advanced" then scroll a bit down and unselect "Use Smooth Scrolling" click Apply, and OK then your done. It seemed to fix alot of peoples problems, let me know if it fixed yours

PS, The way to turn it off varies from OS to OS, im using Windows XP Pro.

i've noticed a squeaking sound from speakers which sounds a lot like a hard disk whine when moving the mouse around, using onboard sound & having the sound in windows turned up to maximum.
