any one still using a athlon64 fx53 ?
i take that as a no then :surprised:
Didn't the FX53 require ECC Registered DDR? I think that was what killed it...
Indeed, wasn't it the last of the old S940 series. I still have an s940 opteron 150, does the job admirably, stable as you like.
the fx53's i have seen are s939
They came in two flavours. The first itineration was s940, then s939 came along.
how do the s939 hold up in todays programs/games ?
FX53 = 2.4GHz single core, alright I suppose, nothing to shout about. Unlocked multiplier though for overclocking goodness...
S939 in general = Gotta Opteron 170 at 2.6GHz here and it handles everything I throw at it with ease.
i was going to get the a64 4000 but it is locked to 12x , if i get a fx53 off of ebay i think my mobo will let me overclock it
IMO you are better of getting any dual core one...
whats the point of that ? , most of the games etc do not use both the cores
so getting a lower powered dual core will help in future programs/games ?
Probably, if you've got dual core at 1.8GHz and you have a program that will utilise more than one core you have effectively a 3.6GHz CPU (please correct me if I'm misrepresenting).
Don't look at clock speed. I've gone from a Prescott P4 3.4GHZ to a 2.13GHz Dual core e6400. And the e6400 is more efficient and cooler than the P4.
If you are looking at upgrading your s939 CPU, I don't know what to recommend...
I'd probably salvage what I could (like the 8800GTS) and go c2d.
