    E6600 OC Air

Just for interests sake, whats the most anyone on here has OC an E6600 on air(stable)?
Ive decided to hold back my Watercooled rig until Ive built up my kids rig as Ive been promising them too long and Im starting to feel bad about it now. This is what I plan to build em:
    Akasa Eclipse 62(ordered this morn)
    E6600
    P5B Deluxe (ordered this morn)
    2GiB Ram-undecided type
    8800gts
    650W Enermax Infiniti
    320 Gb Samsung HD321KJ Spinpoint T
Thermalright Ultra-120 EXTREME-when in stock (Arctic 7 Pro for now)
Does any of that seem overkill? I was hoping it wud last them awhile too

Has anyone got a similar rig so I know what to expect to get from Overclocking this, Im guessing I wont reach 3.6gz with Aircooling.

That should overclock like a B'Stard

Nothing wrong with a bit of overkill.

    thats similar to mine..

I can get to 3.6 but not particularly stable without putting the volts up too much for my liking.

I'm at 3.4 stable with mid to high 30's degress idle and mid to high 40's under load.

I'm using the arctic freezer 7 pro

So maybe with a Thermalright Extreme I cud get 3.6 then, dont really mind upping the volts as long as it works and its stable

Providing you get a good chip the thermalright should keep it happy at 3.6

Well in a month or so I'll be gettin my system, E6600 again. Hopefully out of the 2 I will get a decent overclocker. Is there more luck gettin a good overclocker with a E6700 maybe or is it about the same gamble?

Luck of the draw mate. You can even get what is supposedly a great week of cpu and it doesnt overclock well.

Good cooling is a must for any of them for overclocking though.

Wasnt there a new Thermalright cooler about to hit the shops? A giant thing with 2 heads?

Well thers the Thermalright 120 Extreme thats just come out and sold out everwhere, it has more heatpipes and extra fins, which kicks everythings butt at the mo when it comes to AC. Think Ill just stick with the E6600 then as paying an extra 80 doesnt seem to decrease the risk. Cooling wont be a prob, gonna stick some HR-09 Mosfet coolers on aswell for good luck My kids are prolly gonna end up playing cards on it or some lame game. Glad Im waitin for my build cos the new Asus boards look awesome and have better power etc Seriously like the idea of them gettin rid of the PS/2 connectors and all that junk that 99% of ppl dont use

Whyy dammit whyyy, is there no end to all this waiting Now I got to either get a 120-Extreme or wait a few weeks for this new Beastie. I might just stick with a AC7 Pro for now as its £13 and see what unfolds

It doesnt do the mosfets, you need the hr-09 for that

I quite like the backside cooler, that will be great for my farmers.
