New keyboard - Cherry Black CyMotion Expert or Logitech Media Keyboard Elite ?

I need a new wired keyboard and have narrowed it down to two candidates. The Cherry Black CyMotion Expert or the Logitech Media Keyboard Elite. A recent comment on ebuyer suggests the Logitech might have problems with repeating keys.

The CyMotion has some good reviews on OCUK, but only has one star rating on Scan (although you can't see why people have rated it low).

Not too bothered about lots of media keys, but a few always come in handy. I mainly use it for software development.

Which should I go for, or is there another keyboard I should consider ?

The scan rating system is varying from high end to low end. It only gets one star because it's a tenner basically. Not actual user reviews.

I use a Logitech media elite for most of my typing. It's very flat which I prefer for typing and can take a lot of abuse. It leaves my G15 sitting unused.

Can't say I;ve used the cherry but they have a very good rep.

I have a Saitek Eclipse, it's great for typing, even moreso for writing code since it's space bar has proportionate dimensions making it easy to make a quick and clean spacebar hit, no obtuse media keys and you can see the layout in the dark if you're feeling lethargic, and since the characters are a translucent part of the key rather than painted on they don't fade away, and it provides a healthy key response. I can not find fault in it at all. I know some people like flat keyboards after having got used to laptops, but they're really bad for prolonged typing and hacking sessions.

I got a media elite and the keys kept stiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiickkkkkkking. Not worth the cost of sending it back to Logitech either as it's only £14.:(

I've always had Microsoft Keyboards and Logitech mice. Always been the best combination for me - most recently a Digital Media Pro Keyboard and an MX1000, though I did buy a wireless KB & Mouse Set - Desktop Elite something or other, but it didn't play ball with my KVM, so back to the Digital Media pro & MX1000, used the other set for my laptop :)

logitech kit is badly built IME

but the cymotion's not a pretty or comfortable keyboard

I think I'll give the Logitech a miss then.

directhex - why do you say the CyMotion is not comfortable, as the keys are supposed to be 20% larger than normal which would make typing easier, I would've thought ?

Re. the Scan rating system, how come a case like the Akasa Eclipse 62 has no stars ?

The Saitek looks interesting, particularly as the keyboard characters cannot be worn away - I always find the 'A' and 'S' characters wear out first.

Hmmm, I'm a bit confused as to whether the CyMotion Expert is a noisy keyboard. The review at computer buyer and dabs.com says it is very noisy, but the review at OCUK says it is quiet.

i don't like the key response - it's rather spongy. and the large keys are all well & good, but the bit that's larger is the slant on the keys - meaning a bigger gap between keys, not bigger places to hit. it gets annoying when using a different keyboard

Cherry make great keyboards, but if you don't care about the media keys and you have a PS/2 port available, I'd go for http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...roductID=73301 .

Agreed. The Cherry feel takes a bit of getting used to, but when you do you'll miss it if you change - much easier on the fingers and no clacking.
