    320mb/640mb

Sorry for another 8800gts thread, hopefully this is quick.
Gettin this monitor for my kids. Want a 8800gts but not sure whether to get a higher Overclocked 320mb or just a lower clocked 640mb? From what Ive read the 640mb is for higher resolutions but not sure what to excpect with that screen..
I know about the warranties and all that so ill probably go BFG or eVGA

if you're just going to be running at 1280x1024, theres really not that much of a difference, so i'd go with the cheapest option

Thought so. I'll just go for an OC 320mb, theyr not much more expensive, was just checking if the 640mb was worth it if not on a higher resolution. My kids dont need anything bigger than a 19".

Treat them to a widescreen monitor, they are so much better, they're the future. There are plenty available at reasonable prices

If I was getting a new screen I'd get a cheap wideone one too, 19inch wide and a cheap GFX @ £199

Im not really keen on widescreens tbh, dont know why. It causes a bit of hassle with some games etc, maybe for movies they are great but still it doesnt convince me. Im sure my kids will cope with a normal Pc screen cos at the mo they play PS2 on a 14inch tiny thing

most games seem to have support for widescreen now, there are a few exceptions like the battlefield series tho.

A wierd exception is Rainbow Six Vegas, on the 360 you have to play it in widescreen otherwise you get black bars at the top and bottom of a 4:3 screen, but with the PC widescreen is not supported at all, wierd eh?

Funny enuf it was battlefield 2 I was reffering to as some mates had issues with widescreen, thats what put me off widescreen. But im sure the support will come. I might consider it for my rig but for my kids ill stick with the norm.

The 640MB will be useful in games that have more detailed textures, even at 1280 x 1024. Not sure if the amount of video RAM affects ability to use features such as AA/AF etc though...

I use my 640Mb 8800GTS and it runs full everything on BF2 at highest res. on my Dell 2407. I guess you only need the 320 for a lower res / size monitor.

we are yet to see just how much memory DX10 titles will take at respectable resolutions, but provided you have decent cpu and ram, the 8800GTS 320MB seems to be the better value for money and the extra ram only comes into play when resolutions exceed 1920X1600 or greater, for the majority of dx9 titles, so I'd just buy an 8800GTS 320mb (the choice would be made on money constraints too )

What resoultion do normal 19" Tft monitors run at? Cos usually u run it at the stated resolution dont u?
