I would have to agree with the other comments not to worry. There is a big difference between a hard drive that is unplugged to one powered up and in use. I can't believe how some people treat their laptops these days. I really wouldn't want to take a working, powered up laptop for a walk or subject it to too much movement. But once off you can certainly move them without a worry.

Do these drives have a bad reputation? They where everyone's best friend when I was buying them. Infact I even quadruple checked by reading a bunch of reviews online. The general concensus was, faster at most things, ran cooler, more reliable, huge warrenty, win win win. I was determined to buy WD, but I was eventually convinced otherwise.

Whenever you sign for a delivery, write "unchecked" or "unopened" above your signature.
Also remember that, if any issues arise, the courier company is an agent of the retail company that you ordered that delivery from - so, in essence, the retail company is responsible for the actions of the courier, not you.

Good advice! Thank you I didn't know that. I will remember it for next time.

No idea with the 750giggers, but certainly their 320 and 400gb sisters have been utterly awful.

Both mine died within 4 months, and I'm far from the only one.

Yup, top drives that I've recommended to others as well

But I took a guess that his was going to be a seagate at that size, and I'm happy with my 320gb 7200.10 as well (which is 350G)

I've always been wary of how the packages are handled from leaving the retailers to your doorstep. tbh the people who work at depots, etc couldn't care less about these packages, and Im sure they do get chucked around a lot.

However, I do think the retailer do need to package the products sufficiently though.

Also my understanding is that the reading arm of hard drives lock into place when not powered up (well at least from what I hear about laptop drive)

They do these days.

In the old days you had to specifically park hard drive heads before you physically moved the computer.

Best Regards,
Ok, thank you, thats great I didn't actually want to complain or anything but that would be a good idea I suppose, to atleast have it on record, incase something does happen to the drive. I will send it by PM in 2 secs.

crap

All my drives are Seagate Barracuda. The main two are the 320 gigs I got two so I could keep the main one mirrored onto the second. The third one is the 750gig, and because its so big, I won't be able to backup anything off that.

If these drives are as unreliable as your experience of them, I could be in trouble (((((

Whats this talk of free delivery by the way? Everything I've bought recently, I've had to pay delivery on Infact, I bought something else with the hard disk, and it cost £10 but the delivery was an extra £5 So the delivery cost added another 50% on to the price basically

Oh well.

Ahhh thanks mate.

I did know about that but I could never figure it out last time I tried I can't remember exactly, but it required some kind of number from this site I think (in my user profile or something), and when I typed that in to scan, it didn't work.

I will give it another go next time I order something though. I bookmarked both those links
